Well Hoopty sprang a leak in the gas tank last weekend. (of course right after I filled the tank. Luckily I caught it before too much had drained onto the asphalt. Couldn't get the siphon hose to go in, but turned out the tank was bad enough that when I poked at it, it made a big hole.

I finally got time yesterday to remove the old tank. I thought (wrong again) it would be easy with the way it is hooked up. Fought the lines awhile, but finally got them loose and she came out.

I ordered a new tank and some new pieces to put it in with. Today while killing time, I cleaned up and painted the tank strap brackets. My tank is supposed to be here Tuesday and the rest of the stuff hopefully by the weekend.

Oh and last night I got me a new shop vac for $20 at a silent auction.

Been mostly driving Hoopty since the tank got fixed. Forgot to update this. It was a pain to some extent. Had to lift the bed to gain access to the fuel lines as the rubber lines kept pinching close when I tried to hook to the new tank.

I also picked up some wheels for it. 15x8 again, older style mags from the 80s. I have to clean and polish them some, but overall I think they will look good on Hoopty once I get tires for them.

Still gathering money/parts for when I change out the engine, but right now I don't want to tear into it as I am enjoying driving him too much

No work done by me on Jr., but he had to work instead today. Cleaning up yard and carrying away bush and tree trimmings. This was the smallest of 3 loads. I am so glad I only have a 1/2 acre yard. Hoopty performed and survived a lot better than me.

Tomorrow Hoopty will get a much deserved bath.

Spent the morning polishing Hoopty's new wheels. Now I remember why I don't really want another show car vehicle . Anyways, they came out pretty good, least good for a driver. I still am working on what I will replace the corn out center cap labels with. So now it's just some lug nuts and tires and Hoopty will be rolling with some new shoes and socks.


I also clean his house, so he could fit back in it again.

Been a while, but since I needed the ralleys for the 70, it was time to get Hoopty her new shoes and socks on.


Even though they are an old style, I really like these wheels, especially on the squares.


I just wish it would quit raining long enough to clean her up for a good photo op.

Not a whole lot done. Started having fuel leaks and found because of the pickup I had no vent, so I guess that is what forced things to start leaking. I lifted the bed hoping I didn't have to drop the tank (full of course). Needless to say I had to drop the tank. Evidently someone changed it out before and put in a 2 line pickup (which is the new one I ordered and put in a few months back). Turns out I need a 3-line pickup so I can the fuel and return line, plus the vent line. The original vent line that ran to the engine canister was cut in a couple spots, but I made me a new vent. Took one of these motorcycle vents, bent a piece of hard line and made it come up between the cab and bed. It is barely noticeable and works great. Got all the new line rubber put on, secured all the lines again and went cruising with Jr. Running like a top and the vent issue with the fuel seems to be solved. JR is all ready for Cruising the Coast, then he'll get his engine changed out.

Decided to start changing out the heater core for Jr. (last weekend) May I add I thought the 70 was a pain, but crud this one really stunk stunk. I ended up having to drop the inner fender (of course the bolts had to be cut off). And of course some of the hold down bolts snapped off.

Got it all out, cleaned up. Made some new bolts to hold the core in and replaced all the dry rotted vacuum tubes. I figured I had it out, I would go ahead and insulate the cab while I had it all torn apart.

Since others have mentioned it worked well for them, I made a trip to Lowe's and got the Peal & Seal stuff. I ended up using a bit more than 4 rolls, but it was layered on double on the firewall and floorboards.

It was my first time doing this stuff and I think it came out OK. Make the mountings for my speakers and trial fitting the new seat belts (from a 94).
I plan on making a back panel to cover the rear of the cab while I wait for the carpet/padding/regular insulation to show up.

I may not know what to do with Jr not sounding like a tin can.

Sound deadener looks good in there. It actually makes a difference --- you might be like me & able to hear your stereo now over the road noise.

I got all the carpeting put in today, finished the rear cab panel. and replaced the factory red seat belts with gray ones from a 94 C1500 extended cab truck. For those that have not tried the newer belts, the ones from the extended cab bolt into all the original holes.

So I went from pretty much a bare floor to the final picture.

I also finished up mt cup holder so I don't have to have one of those sit on the seat kind. I like the one in my 2002 Silverado W/T, so I got one like it and fabricated a simple bracket so it can bolt to the rail I am using to hold my 92 seat in the truck.

I like how it came out and it holds dang near any size cups or drink containers. It doesn't interfere with the leg room much either if I need to haul a 3rd person.

Have not been doing much with Jr except killing mosquitoes. Today I started ripping out Jr's heart to make way for the new one. Got most of the stuff off or unbolted. Next is remove the hood and slide her free from the tranny. Clean her up some and the new crate goes in.

In a couple weeks there should be a whole lot of happy mosquitoes!

Any of you know what this tag is?

It is on the front of the drivers side head of the 350. I have yet to find my motor numbers, but this sure doesn't look like them to me either.

Just a basic GM Crate 350

Peal N seal works really good. It quieted it down a WHOLE lot and definitely keeps out the heat. Even with Mississippi heat, I do not notice any tar smell in the truck.

Thanks - I'm going to have to try that stuff. The truck looks great, I like what you've done with it. I'd like to make it to CTC next year, mebbe I'll get to see it.
