Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

Mine are both hacked up. I wish they weren't but that's my preference.

FYI if you cut it. The cd player dosent fit perfect. You will still have a little gap.

Depends on the truck.

On a bone stock all original truck that is slated for restoration, or that has been restored, yes it does take away from the value of the truck.

Some people like the bone stock interior... time warp... appeal, others like to modernize.
If your theme is "time warp" then don't cut it,
If your theme is a modern interpretation of an old truck, cut it up.
Either way it's all good, 'cause it's yours.
Enjoy yourself whichever way you go......

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

I cut mine 9 years ago and loved it, but now i wish i hadnt. But I payed $100 for a uncut dash and will soon have a uncut dash. If it what you want do it but i think there are better options.

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

Do you park it inside or outside at night? I tend to think that its so easy to steal a stereo in one of these trucks you're better off not installing one in the factory location.

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

I got a 67 swb cheap because of a cut dash, because the butthead that stole the cd player left some wireing on the metal that inturn messed up the wireing where it wouldn't run ................I hate that the dash is cut in the 67 i might fix it i fixed the wireing and have it running now, my 71 isn't and ain't gonna be with all the mp3 etc. tech. the cd player is not needed anymore for me. If you do cut it clean and fit it nice so many of them look like crap.

it's just metal. it can be fixed. enjoy your truck and don't worry so much about what others think.
I was mulling over a 71 K5, and one of the reasons I decided against it was because the dash was butchered. It will hurt the resell value if that's a concern for you.

It's your choice on how you want your truck to look. There are hundreds of aftermaket radio options out there, but there's only one way for it to look "original."

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

P O butchered the radio hole & the ashtray just to put this piece of crap in it . I don't see anything wrong with cutting the dash to put in a nice radio if thats what you want . I think it looks good if done right .

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

I wouldn't do it, I wouldn't have bought my truck if it had a cut dash or doors for that mater, or at least I would have paid a lot less for it. Lots of other options now, don't do it.

Re: to cut or not to cut (radio)

Don't do it !!!! You have so many options with all of the after market stereos that will fit our trucks with MP3 & memory sticks . If you really need a CD player you can install a multi disk player under the seat or some ware.
