Well....... Since my truck has been in paint prison I have made some changes to the route I am going. So the biggest part is I will no longer be using the LQ4 I bought. I rebuilt it... Sold it... And now have a stroker motor (sbc) that I am going to run with. Gonna be alot less work and just as much power. Plus dont have to mess with all the computer and wiring crap. So thats the update as of for now. Hopefully I will have the truck back by christmas...(that's the plan)

Re: From Mine to Hers Build

You might think about adding some vortec heads to your stroker SB and get great torque and good fuel economy.

Nice looking engine you got there! What particular head are you using? I see it a edlebrock head, you have the part #

Hey Late68, thanks for the compliment,,,The heads are Edelbrock's version of the GM vortec heads,,,with some improvements (of course). They are part# EDL-60979 (E-Tec 170) and they run about $1100 a pair. There's more info at Edelbrocks site or Summit Racing. The thing is, these are 64cc heads, so you have to run a dish piston to get your compression ratio low enough to run pump gas. Looks like you already have your piston's picked out, so these heads might not work for you. Hope this helps,,,great project,,,keep up the good work!

Re: From Mine to Hers Build

383's are nice but why didn't you just convert the LQ4 you just rebuilt to a carb setup if you didn't want EFI?

Look at the Dart Pro-1 platinum heads. I ran the 180 cc versions on my Malibu and loved them.

http://www.dartheads.com/products/cy...der-heads.html

They will run you a little more money then the e-tech heads but can be had with pump gas friendly 72 cc chambers and straight spark plugs to work with most headers.

Well had a guy that bought the LQ4 for a hefty price and got a hell of a deal from my brother on this block so kinda made a bit of money...

Definatly going to have to get a 72cc head in order to be able to run pump gas... If I threw on some 64cc I would prolly have around 13:1 with there domed pistons.

Re: From Mine to Hers Build

Well I guess I have a little bit of an update. Kinda decided to dis-assemble the motor and go through it just to make sure the last guy didn't miss anything. ( kinda glad I did too) Sooooo. took it apart all the way down, needed cam bearings, crank bearings and rod bearings looked good but hey might as well put a new set in... After so I took the block and crank down to my local machine shop. Block was bored .030 over and had some minor rust at the top of the block so I had them bore it another .010. Poloshed the crank and back together we go. Just got in a new set of pistons flat top 4 valve relief to help with the compression. ( had to get rid of the HUGH dome pistons that were in it.) Now just need a day or two and I will have the short block done. Time to start saving for a set of heads. As far as the truck, it's still at the paint shop.....

Re: From Mine to Hers Build

All right! Well I have some pictures to look at which is always better. Not a bunch of exciting stuff but it is progress. Short block os done, new pistons, rods, crank, bearings, rings. Still kinda trying to decide on what heads I am going to order. Also getting ready to order my cam in the next day or so, which will be a Lunati 60104LK. And the sad but "slow" process that I am having over at a buddy of mine's shop which "is what it is". Hopefully he will be finished up within the next two weeks.

Are you going to run the fuel injection or carb? and what transmission do you plan on using?

Yea so now you should have some motivation to get your ass out in the shop and start working on that masterpiece, soon enough I will be driving over there in mine and you'll be in the same stage as you are now!!!

Alright another small update. Got my heads in and cam set. Still waiting on my pushrods to come in so that I can actually finish the top end but that's it!
