Re: 1968 Chevy C10 Bagged on Wide Whites

I have some updates from the last several weeks while I tackled stage 2 of the rear suspension. It was time to get it down a few more inches by making my own weld in c-notch, upgrade and relocate the rear shocks, new adjustable panhard bar in a new location, new trailing arm bushings, bumpstops, and cleanup so that my friend could paint everything.

Onto some progress shots.

[img][/img]
Nice and rusty with some 2.5" pinion corrected lowering blocks with custom built U-Bolts

Marked the center of the axle when laid out.

Worked out to a 2.5" additional drop when sat down on the bumpstops.

Inside cut to match contour of frame with room to run the brake line behind the axle.

After a few rounds of cleaning the frame.

Next to the 72 that we were bagging at the same time.

New exhaust, NAHHHTT!

It is going to sit just low enough for the top of the diff to relax against the bed floor.

New panhard axle mount

New panhard frame mount

Time for Nate to paint a couple C10's

Flipped the stock lower shock mount upside down and side to side.

Notches bodyworked and primed.

Paint pics to come next.

Re: 1968 Chevy C10 Bagged on Wide Whites

Could you take a pic of the firewall. I'm looking at your factory wall markings. My drivers side ones are gone and I'd like to put some back on. Hard to find a 68 with some still on to know what I should put on. Thanks

Re: 1968 Chevy C10 Bagged on Wide Whites

Looks great but personally I would be a little worried about the structual integity of the frame with a notch like that. I bet you could stand on the end of the rails and flex it down a couple inches.

Re: 1968 Chevy C10 Bagged on Wide Whites

Thanks for all the compliments all. Yes, that is my boss' 91 3.18is that has a swapped M3 S52/6 speed also sitting on air. The Datsun is a future project of mine. The floors/sheetmetal in the datsun are nicer than my C10.

Man there are so many haters on the notch like no one has ever modified a frame before. Sure it would be stronger to box, gusset, or add further support to the frame, but doesn't mean the bed is going to fall off since I didn't. I guess I shouldn't be crusing around with anything in the bed either

I now have well over 500 miles on the truck since getting it back together without any issue.

Not hating on anything. I didn't even notice anybody else bring it up. Its just something I noticed reading through your bad ass build.

Re: 1968 Chevy C10 Bagged on Wide Whites

Truck looks awesome! Frame came out great! I don't think anyone's hating...just trying to point out a possible weak point in the frame. There was a heated discussion thread about notches on this forum a while back and the facts ended up that a notch like that is just waiting to fail...and there's some easy/cheap ways to prevent it to happen...out of that thread CPP re-designed their c-notch and produced a stronger one...(although the cheaper ones still sell better )
