Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

The more I look at that crew, I'm agreeing that this guy will need to front you some cash and the crew to get close to the value of your blazer.

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

With the new pics and info....NO way I'd make the straight up swap....

If you REALLY want the crew I'd say swap with him paying 5-8K cash on top....

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

I'm guessing the front has been Z'd? How was the rear suspension done? I think I'd pass on it. Don't know if I could even give 5k for somthing like that.

It still needs a lot of work and then your going to have to blow it all back apart for paint and powder. Lots of time and time is money. If that's what you really want I'd start fresh. At least then you know what your getting into. I'm sure you could locate a factory crew if you looked hard enough. Still going to need the sub doors grafted on though.

What was the factory option code for the crewcab so I can add it to my custom version? Never knew there was a factory version?

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

Well guys I think I have made a deal with him on it. First off im keeping my wheels off the Blazer and he is giving me the crew cab plus a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 6in lift and 37inI tires with factory air. And a bunch of parts including two more front clips and hoods. I was very skeptical with the metal skills the owner has by looking at the tranny tunnel but he sent me pictures of the underside and his frame work is beautifu. It is z 'd front and rear. The plan is to pick both trucks up Sunday. Thanks for all the comments but don't stop now keep them coming.

When you get it you should stretch the frame to accept standard size swb bed is it on a longhorn frame now or something

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

Now you have another project to add to your list in your signature. Congrats on the deal, I say go for it! Could be fun to build the Crew into a 4x4.

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

Looks cool, but needs a ton of work. Main thing is build quality and welding and how the air setup was done and cab work. If you're getting two trucks, I hope the other truck is in daily driver quality and not a rust bucket. If it's all good then I'd say the trade could be ok due to the amount of time and work it takes to make a crewcab.

Good luck with the new trucks...make sure you take lots of pics and post them up.

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

I think you got an awesome deal. Being that I am only beginning my crew cab conversion, I applaud anyone with the patience to build a crew cab. I am doing mine the hard way (minus a suburban to start) and I already have about 60 hours into it and that is only cutting and seperating the two cabs and pieces. If you figure what that would cost at a decent shop rate, you'd already be into the thousands. The trans tunnel work didn't look to be the greatest quality but that is little stuff compared to the overall project. To say that building one yourself would be better than buying one is crazy, not everyone has the capacity to do that! Yours will be the only one, which is why people CUSTOMIZE cars and trucks to begin with.

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

Man I am glad you did not trade for that, you can tell in the pic that the front frame horns have been welded on right in front of the upper a arms. It just seems to cut up for what it was. Smart move my friend.

The floors on it are seperated from the rockers due to rust, it needs the drives floor and kick panel and possibly the same on the passenger side, the roof is not fully welded and was cut into three sections(tacked every three inches or so). The rear door on the passenger side does not fit right (it sags so he cut out the bottom of the door jamb to get the door to close so no latch). The frame work is not even close to finished, it still needs a lot of gussets for support. I didnt like that he spliced in the drivers front frame rail right in front of the a-arm, he said it was so he could have power steering. When he said it needed the rear brakes he didnt say there was none, no shoes no pads wheel cylinders or even drums. man the list goes on and on. It also did not have any exhaust. The tranny tunnel he made was just tacked about every 4 inches. Looking inside you could just see daylight everywhere. I think the truck might be worth 2k-3 but thats just for the cost of suspension and wheels.

Re: 72 Crew cab on trade?

A lot of work left, the welding and metal fab looks not so good. Unless you feel like a couple year project I would turn and run away from it and leave it for some one that has the time and big money to put in to it but the then is me I look at some thing like that and it scares the hell out of me.
