Heck I can't even lean over to get the bag of dog food out of my truck without opening the tail gate. Also if I have a brain fart and spill some fuel I prefer it to be on the concrete at the gas station than in the back of my truck.
All only my opinion and worth every penny you paid for it.
That's pretty funny.

Re: Show Us Your In-Bed Fuel Doors!

NOW we're gettin' cranked up!

How about pics of a few more doors, and a bung/cap or two to finish off the topic?

Thanks to All,
Bob

My $.02 worth....

Is there any concern about fire?
We are warned not to fill a gas can inside the bed of a truck, static electricity build-up and the like.
Heres a Youtube clip There are other videos to be found.
So, is this a concern?
What makes a gas can in the bed so different than a gas tank filler neck?
I'm just asking the question, I'm not being critical of anyones choices.

Re: Show Us Your In-Bed Fuel Doors!

The two pics below show the cap as set in and the configuration of hoses to connect the cap to the tank.
The pipe on the end of the cap is 1.5" OD and the pipe at the opening of the tank is 1.75" OD. I had to use a hose that was 1.5" ID to connect to the cap and a hose that was 2" and 1.75" ID to connect to the tank. Then I used clamps to hold it all together.
It would have been so much easier had I bought the cap and had the tank spout made the correct size.

I wanted to use a locking door and found this on ebay. It opens up to a 16 gl Tanks Inc. universal tank.

"Tanks" had a booth at the Street Rod Nationals today (actually, all this weekend, in Louisville, KY). They have a lot of tank gadgetry that may interest some of us. I believe everything I saw is shown on their website.

BTW, I have found a 2" bung that is the same size as the Mustang tank filler tube. It's on my '68 GTO, which should mean that any GM "A" body of that vintage can be a donor. just cut to length, clamp it on, then get a GM cap.

THIS IS AN ERROR! The Mustang filler tube is 2-1/4". (It's hell to get old.)

Sometimes you just have to focus on the result. Now that you're done, it looks great!

Re: Show Us Your In-Bed Fuel Doors!

Hi guys;

I bought these gas cap and filler necks on e-bay, of course no instructions came with them & I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to mount them through my stake hole in the bed.

Would you recommend cutting a hole in a piece of sheet metal, fitting the bung in the hole and then tach welding it in from the bottom to keep the seam clean around the top?

Then I could weld the sheet metal into the stake hole (would probably have to cut the stake hole bigger to fit it).

I'm wondering if there may be a different way that I'm not seeing because the bung has grooves cut into it that makes me think that it somehow just might push into a hole and then get clamped from underneath to allow it to be removed later on down the line for servicing.

Help! :-)

Re: Show Us Your In-Bed Fuel Doors!

What if you cut a hole in a piece of sheet metal to fit the first little lip on the bung and tack welded from under, then cut out your stake pocket to fit your sheet metal and weld in. This i think might give you a flush mount look.

On mine, I'm going to combine one of these with JJ's idea above except the sink drain flange thing will be polished.

Here's the website: https://crafty-b.com/collections/all-gas-caps

They have a bunch of other more complex/bigger/EXPENSIVE options of course.
