Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
I wouldn't recomend it. We used to make a coil-over conversion kit for C-10's, it was a slow seller. Some compaies still have them available. The mounts are plenty strong, but really not designed for the spring load. For the most part, I can't see any ride quality or performance increase (other than spring preload adj.) gained from coil-overs vs. coil & shock. There may be a slight disadvantage with a coil-over by not leveraging the spring.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
Rob thanks for your time this afternoon, I'll be in touch shortly to order the shocks, relocator kit & springs. I really need some ride quality back before my wife shoots me, she's tired of bounceing...

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
One more question. How far is the shock from the frame rail? If you were to use a KYB gas adjust would I have to cut the shocks upper protecting steel sheeve off? It might be tight, Do you have a vertical picture from the back view?

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
plenty of room, the inside edge of the shock eye is 1 1/4" from the frame rail. Or, the shock centerline is 1 15/16" from the rail. no need to trim anything.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
you'll notice that the lower shock mount studs are 6061 stainless, we couldnt find what we wanted, so we had to have them made. It took a while, but it's right.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
Well after 6 1/2 hrs I'm done.
I got the shock relocator on but had to ditch the rear camaro sway bar. For now anyway??? I asked about this before I ordered it and Ron said it wasn't a problem. Well it was, big time. There was no way that shock kit was going to work with it on the truck. Not to worried about the sway bar since this is just a street truck and not a race truck. It would be nice to have it though. $$$$ thrown away as of now! I'm going to get back under it after our beach trip and see what I can come up with to reinstall it. Also there was no 5/8" hole in my frame to locate the upper shock mount. So I just used my own judgment and mounted it. I used the smaller hole you see in the pictures as my starting point. Installed and ready to ride in the AM to work and see how it does. It's on a little angle but it fits good that way. Both sides are like that. Anybody out there need a set of the over load peices for there truck. I happen to have a set!

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
looks good, my sway bar (camaro) is on top of my axle, I dont know if that will help or not probably not since them upper outside mounts look to be in teh same relative position.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
Well once I get back next week from our vacation I may try and reinstall it some where else. Maybe on the front side who knows. Those bigger holes were fun to drill. Well the bits I had were old to though!

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
Are my eyes playing tricks on me? It looks like your lower shock mounting is different than the pictures that Rob posted. Do you have the lower mounts switched side to side? I looked at the pictures on the Project JT build. post #136 and the shocks appear to mount on the flat side of the lower bracket.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
They could be. I put them on a couple of times before I settled on this way. The peices are not marked and the directions were just pictures. They are mounted on the flat sides though.

Re: 63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System
This is how they are mounted except the shock bolt is in backwards. Is that right? I can't see the truck until Monday night so all I have is the pictures posted.
I should have taken pictures of both sides I guess!
