I dont know what Raull ran for BS up front but I bet its 5.25"

You have a spreadsheet?

I think you'd be good with the 20x8.5 Coys all the way around and just offset the backspacing to make them look wider. 5.25 F / 4.75 R

If Keith's truck (Stella) has a 22x9 / 5" BS and you drop to 20x8.5 / 4.75" BS essentially you gain .25 more clearance in the front and rear of the wheel where it sits in the fender (.25 less of a chance the wheel will rub the fender lip on the outside, and .25 less of a chance it will rub the inner fender / bedside. Which I would think would be perfect.

I'm not 100% sure, but from what you describe on the rear axle housing I would say you have the 55" one. (Backing plate to backing plate) If it's 57" from flange to flange, that measurement would make sense to me because the flange sticks out further on either side than the backing plate would. .75" either side sounds about right too. Keith, correct me if I'm off here.

On the tires, I have 255/40/20 on my 68 and personally I think they're a little small. Nitto420s. I realize they can be slightly different from manufaturer to another .. but just my taste I like a little more sidewall. My trucks are not bagged though. On my 68, I am considering moving my 255/45 to the front and getting some 255/50 for the back. We'll see.

My truck has the narrow rear end with an adjustable track bar. My wheels are 20x8.5 with 4.75" BS and a 255/45/20 on it for now. It is TIGHT. .. but with no trimming it doesn't rub. It sits dead center in the wheel well.

If I bag it (possibly shrader in the back) I could easily go lower .. it's at 6" now but about to be notched. If I go to a 255/50 or even 265/50 - I wish they made a 265/45 but they dont in the Nittos ..

What I'm saying is I have about 1/4 clearance on the wheel lips and about 1/2 on the bedsides with no cutting. I talked to N2Billet and he has 22x9 with 5" BS on his but it's bagged. Narrow housing .. He said he had to trim the fender lips a bit to make it work.

Your call on tires but if Coys are what you want, I think you're on it as stated. That 4.75 BS 8.5" wheel would sit nicely on your stepper (rear) 5.25" up front.

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

I spoke with Raul and updated his front BS specs and his rear tire size(he went a little slimmer to max them out without trimming)

Believe I am set for the wheel selection now need to research/search for tires.

Anyone have a good discount site for online tires to suggest or to compare against shopping locally?

Think I'm sold on the Toyo ii's based on reviews and everything i've read so far

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Nates (72BlckButy's) rear wheel/tire specs are:

20x10 (with 4.75" BS)
295/40-20 Toyo tires
(narrow 67-69 rearend housing)
Fleetside bed.

You can add that to the spreadsheet if you want.
Nate's truck.
And n2billet's Stella Mae.

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Looking at another cheaper option: Eagle Alloys they offer the below specs in a 20x8.5"

In the front it looks like the 5.5" is the best starting point, but in the rear would it be best to give the .25" to the more(5) or less(4.5) backspacing vs the Coys 4.75?

Lollife I also know you were in the heat of the Boss 338 fitment issues (i read the 40 pager) and that Eagle Alloy makes Boss or vice versa

Funkytechmonkey on 9/28/11 states he ordered a new set of 338s and they cleared with no issues for the 1 1/4" rotor. This is the most recent post I have found addressing the fitment issues
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=boss&page=5

Does anyone know if the Eagle Alloy brand wheels share the same fitment issues or fix with the redesigns?

I don't believe there are ANY fitment issues with the AE 220 wheels.

I never could find a clear answer on the 225s/227s etc, so I wasn't sure, more than likely a test like Funkytech monkey is the smartest move

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

I'm not the best person when it comes to backspacing but I would think that a 20x8.5 wheel with 4.5" BS would sit the same on the outside fender lip as Stella Mae's 22x9 with 5" BS. Atleast this is what makes sense to me . Keith please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do know that N2Billet had to trim a little off of the fender lip for clearance. I would rather do that then run into a problem with the tire possibly rubbing the bedside on the 20x8.5 with 5" BS.

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

One of the best things I have every purchased.

http://www.jegs.com/p/Percys/Percys-...61153/10002/-1

I have one if you guys want to borrow it. .. just pay shipping to / from.

You really have to be careful with these wheels and especially backspacing, as some companys will just add more thickness to the hub to change the backspacing. What I'm saying is the outside lip of the wheel will look the same on a 7" wheel vs. an 8" wheel but the backspacing change is in the mounting flange rather than the wheel vs. centerline of the wheel if that makes sense.

Not meaning it like it sounds but you owe it to yourself to get one of these. *This is why my wheels will come last on my GMC. Once I get it dropped, I will measure with my wheelrite and order the wheels. I don't care if the truck sits on stands for 6 weeks, .. whatever it takes to get them correct. To me, there's nothing that sucks more than spending $3k on wheels and they're 1/4" too wide or just don't sit in the wheel well correctly. I can get them close, but the wheelrite is the way to go.

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Very True CC69Rat and good advice - I listened to everyone's advice and am at that point with my build, suspension, brakes, etc all finished up just searching for wheels

I'm currently in the dilemma of how much $$ do I want to spend and what look do I want to accept...wheels make or brake the truck to me...same reason I've seen you start out with Coys on both your build and then make the switch to a nicer wheel haha

Also I checked with Coys and currently out of stock on the 4.75" BS on a 8.5 I was looking at "might get more in 3 months", I've asked about the 22x9s just to see but I dont think on a static drop truck it can pull them off as well without tucking that tire as Raul and StellaMae do

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

you're absolutely right. (Coys, then switching)

If the Coys wheels didn't have the fitiment issues on the rotors, I'd prob have two sets. I love the wheels.. I really do I just don't like 'making stuff work'. I'm sure they're fine and people do it all the time, I know, .. I know. It's just me.

But, the wheel does make the truck. Keith has tried to drive that into my skull many times and I wouldn't listen but he is absolutely right. Spend $25k restoring a truck, and put lesser of a wheel on it than you REALLY want? If Coys are what you want, then get Coys. Same with the Boss 338 . . I love them all, and if Boss offered more backspacing options I would look more closely at their wheels.

To me it's about the look of the truck overall (shiney or shop truck) and just 'fiting the feel' of the wheel to the truck. On my 68 it will have a So. Cal surfboard in the back beach feel with a logo on the door (my avatar) and light green with a white top. I got the gray wheels to keep that vintage hot rod look. On my GMC, I think I'm going with the aged, more stainless / brushed and classy look. Not Chrome, .. just satin / stainless. I wish Coys offered a polished wheel with a brushed center section. I had thought about trying to do it myself, but I don't know if I could pull it off. Ex. Buy the polished wheels and have them brushed somehow, just the spoke part.

Just an FYI about my personal experience with Coys. I know alot of people on here have Coys and have never had any problems with them but I had a horrible experience with their Customer service. When I ordered my rear wheels I ordered 20x10 with 5" bs. First off they charged me 3 times for the bill because one person didn't advise another person they already ran the order. Then after over 3 weeks waiting for them to come in, I called and they told me that they are back ordered for up to 6 months. When I asked why I was told they were in stock when I ordered they told me it was a mistake and either I would have to wait the 6 months or they could send me the 5.5" BS they had in stock. I took the 5.5" BS cause they couldn't confirm when they would get 5" bs in stock. If i didn't already have my front wheels on and mounted I would have cancelled my order.

So long story short is Buyer Beware especially if they can't confirm the wheels being in stock. It does suck because I love the way the Coys look, but I told myself I would never buy again after my first experience. But even after saying that, now that my truck is going to be a stepper and I'm once again looking for wheels I still look at Coys cause I love the way Stella Mae looks with the 20/22 combo on Air and I also still love their price. It's hard to beat if your willing to deal with the bad customer service. And that ends my rant

This is my understanding as well

Can anyone else offer an EA suggestion or considerations to look at based on their 5x5 offers,

I would still want to double check the clearance with these specs but again as with Coys - fewer custom options so need to check the ballpark areas to consider - So its either they work or dont type deal

Front: 20x8.5 with 5.5" BS or 5" BS - Seems the 5.5" would run the less risk of the outer fender interference
Rear: 20x8.5 with 4.5" BS or 5" BS

thoughts?

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Pretty sure the Coys wheels are 5.25 BS on the 20x8.5s They only offer 4.75 or 5.25" BS on their 8.5" wheel.

So (if ?I recall this is on a stepper RdoubleU?) Two of each would work. Put the 5.25" on the front, and 4.75" on the back. All 4 wheels are 8.5" but they would look wider from the outer edge. (hopefully, unless Coys is one of the manufacturers that just add or take away the thickness of the mounting flange to adjust the BS and the centerline stays the same (??) I'm not sure.

BUT

All 4 of these wheels are the same width. (pic) I ordered two with 5.5" BS on the front and the rears have 4.75" BS. When I measured on my Wheelrite, a 4 5/8" BS would be perfect on my truck. I have the early housing in mine and adj tracbar, centered and recentered.

My 68 has an 84 front Kmember swap and 1.25" rotors so my front end will be slightly different. Mine took 5.5" BS due to the track width I guess. .. plus I just didn't want to be on the tops of the tires on every bump. I have a big ole hunk of iron between the fenders.

See what I mean? The wheels look wider from the outside but they're really not. 255/45 (R) 255/40 (F) It could lay completely out in the rear with about 1/4" clearance. No trimming at all. About 1/2" to the bedside on the 255/45. It's pretty tight ! .. You just can't stuff as much tire under a stepper.

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Your Right CC69 rat its a stepper and the BS options they offer for Coys in a 8.5"

But since they were out of stock in 4.75" I was looking around at the other wheel options

So I found Eagle Alloys as another cheap wheel option - but they only offer the below specs:
Front: 20x8.5 with 5.5" BS or 5" BS - Seems the 5.5" would run the less risk of the outer fender interference
Rear: 20x8.5 with 4.5" BS or 5" BS

So trying to see if they would even be worth measuring for since i'm researching at work lol

I have the stock crossmember with the 1 1/4" brakes as well with the so called CPP New School Old School spindle that doesnt affect track width

Looks like you were checking on the same thing http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=528352

What did you find out for the stock suspension up front : 5" or 5.5"?

However: 20x8.5 with 5" Backspacing vs 5.25" BS ? Would that be a show stopper? Would that extra .25" to the outside make a huge difference? Any pictures down the side of a truck with 20x8.5 5.25" Backspacing on a 255/40? ~4.5" drop.

I just want to see how much room it has. .. An 8" wheel will pull my 255/45 in a little so the section width will be about the same as a 5.25" BS 255/40.

Think it would be ok?

Thanks.

Based on your 4 5/8" comment (.63") it seems the 4.5" BS option (only .15" less) would be a safer starting point that bumping up to the 5" BS (adding .35") to the inside toward the bedside

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

What size tire are you planning to run on the back? Are you ok with trimming it a bit?

Do you have a preference on tires? (The manufacturer) Mine are Nitto420s - I can spec it to that same tire but let's say the 255/45 in another manufacturer might have a slightly wider section width (?) Are you absolutely sure you have the narrow rear end housing?

Do you like the tire to fill the wheel well a little, or a shorter sidewall ?

Re: Any pictures of Stepsides with Coys C5?

Just another note --

I had thought about going with full billet wheels on my 68 so if you like these Billet Specialties I would consider selling this setup. I'm not going to give them away but I had been looking at Intros for my other truck.

No hurry .. just throwing it out there. They are billet hoops, cast center Billet Specialties Dagger G. I bought hem from N2Billet, brand new, never driven on. $2800 takes them.

PM if interested. RdU -- I'll meet you half way between Chatt / Bham. No waiting !!

Do you like the tire to fill the wheel well a little, or a shorter sidewall ?
Planning on a 255/45 - And I was thinking Toyos

Trimming/Rolling wont be a major issue for me as long as it is minor

100% on having the narrow rear housing

Like the tire to fill the wheel well
