Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
Nice truck, that is like finding Bigfoot, an actual bedside toolbox. What are your plans for the truck?

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
Thanks. I will take some better pics today. The box is made to fit around the spring hanger which is different from my 70. The truck has a good spid also. It is a little hard to see because the cruise servo is bolted over it. But I will get the pic someway.

. . . .
That is a VERY rare option on a 73 !!! That rust can be repaired, mine was worse then that. Can you take a picture with the door open to see if it looks like my 70's door, pictured below ? THANKS . . . . |

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
I agree! is it a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? Looks like it's in pretty clean shape... Really like that grille!

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
When I got the '72 K/20Highlander I used to have it had a 73-75 tool & stowage door stuck on it in place of the original that was damaged when someone scraped against something. It didn't quite fit right, but almost. The odd thing is,it opened and shut just fine. I had the proper rust free door,so I put it on. The odd thing is,I could never open it after that!

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
Thanks for the comments. The truck is a half ton.
If you notice on the spid it has cheyenne super on there and it does not have the cruise control listed. Here is a pic of the plastic box that is notched to clear the spring hanger. The door looks like it has been closed for years. Im sure it was locked and somebody tried to pry open the door. I got the door unlatched but the hinges are froze. It will take a few days but I will get it open and take some pics. |

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
The door looks funny in the picture. It had been re-skinned and came out straighter. But,laid next to the correct door you could see the minor differences. I also had a N.O.S. 73-75 door,at the time,I had bought for an '84 I had wanted to use it on...then decided it was too much work and not worth giving up the second tank for.
Has anyone commented oh the fact that these were on the driver side and the pre-73s were on the passenger? I'm sure that's because the standard tank location is the passenger side. I guess you gave up the dual tank option by having a tool & stowage door. Most likely that's why you never saw too many.

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
I think you are right Tim on the gas tanks. You either got one or the other. The standard tank was on the pass side. Your blue and white truck above looked like a great truck. Have you still got it?
Still working on getting the door open. I have been oiling the hinges everyday but nothing has freed up yet. I may have to take my torch and heat them to get em broke loose, without burning up the door seal!! This truck also has all of the original smog equipment on it also. If anyone wants pics let me know. --Clint |

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
Sorry Steve I have not got the door open yet. I have been spraying the hinges everyday but I just have not had the time to work on it much. I farm and I have been busy, here is a pic I took today from the picker:

Re: Factory Bedside Toolbox
Finally after months of spraying and oiling I got the door free. Here are a few pics of the door down and the inside of the box. The pics are not great, but I can get more in a day or two. They installed the box inside the bed prior to paint. The plastic box has both colors oversprayed on it and the screws.
