Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I got hooked in 1973 when I purchased a brand new step-side . Don't ask how many I have owned over the years because I have honestly lost count .

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I learned to drive in my Grandfather's field in his 77 C10. It had a 250 and a 3 on the tree. Despite the drive train I thought the truck was sooo cool, it had white wagon wheels, a roll bar, a push bar with fog lights and a ocean mural in the back window. At 12 - 14 This was very cool!!!

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I just realized I forgot to say WHEN I got into K10s... I just said K10 all the way. *facepalm*
Well my parents divorced when I was 1-2 years old and got shared custody. My dad was huge into car shows and vehicles in general and owned his own repair shop when I was little. Every time I went over to his place every other weekend for visiting, we normally went to a car show as well as drag races. Dad would always enter his '76(?) Firebird into everything. He won a crap ton of trophies and rewards for the car shows, drag races, burn outs and everything else. The moment I saw a Chevy step-side as a kid I fell in love... Note I also had and still have a deep love for El Caminos as well. Always had my eye set on '70s for both. Of course even as a kid I knew what four wheel drive was and that's when I learned about K10s and of course C10s. The way I saw it, you might as well have 4WD if you had the choice... lol. I also always thought it was cool having a wood bed. I'm happy to say that I now own a '74 K10 with a wood bed. *Two of the planks are starting to warp tho so I gotta replace them or all of them, which would be nice since they are all pretty old.* |

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
Geez, where do I start? I had just restored and sold a '59 El Camino and I wasn't about to use my '74 Corvette as my DD. I needed a truck and booked on down to my local Chevy dealer to see what was in stock. My choice was between two long bed Custom Deluxe C-10's and a short bed Cheyenne Big 10. It was Christmas Eve of 1977 when I took my Big 10 home and she's been with me ever since.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
My first vehicle was a 76 blazer that my parents bought new when I was 10 years old . I sold it when I was 21. After 2 years without a truck I bought a 85 K-20 Silverado ,33,000 miles black with a charcoal interior. It had the offroad package ,quad shocks ,skid plate, posi rear ,power windows ,door locks ,cruise control,a/c,tilt, rear slider, cargo light ,4 speaker cassette stereo, a regular gas 350 (no cats) ,turbo 400 tranny and a 208 transfer case.Yeah the Silverado did it for me.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
Well everything started with my vw's then I had a 67 ranchero xl500 w/ 390 & toploder transmission this baby flew, then and f100, but then I found my first k5, it was awesome we went everywhere with it, due to rising gas prices in the mid 80's I sold it. Rregretting that move I purchased another then another, then another, then i bought a 78 1500 for my oldest son, then my 86 that i fixed up (this is not to mention all the k's and c's both my sons owned that I did a bunch of work on), then my 78 camper special, then lastly a 82 diesel that just sold. Currently I have no c's or k's but i'm drawn to this board like a fly to doodoo to see what you guys have been do'n and talk'n about with the hopes of getting another 76-78 camper special someday.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
The house next door had the orange 75 stepside in the garage with the grill off. I rode my bike past that thing a hundred times. 5 years later he put it outside for sale.
It looked even cooler outside on his lawn. Bought it 3 days later. Thanks Mom for lending me the money. My son will get the truck when I die. That was the 1st of many squares

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I started out with the 67-72 C10 models 10 years ago. Picked up an 81 SWB Fleet in 2003 for my daughter's first vehicle. I ended up using it a lot and the squares grew on me. I really like all C10 style trucks from 60 on up. It is a tight battle between my 70 and my current square on which I like the most though.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
my last 2 girls were 5 and 7 when I came home with my 81" SWB Fleetside. They nicknamed it "Billy" because it was tore up looking. They said it looked like a Hill Billy's truck
after cleaning it up, a little sand paper, primer, new wind shield, tires, new lights, new exhaust, rebuild, New AC, and a new stereo system "Billy" was thier favorite. They will climb in that truck and go any where with me. Thats the way we get away and enjoy our time together... my wife or my 19yr old wont be caught dead in it. Fishing trips with them are the most precious trips I will remember in that truck.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I was out originaly looking for a 1968 c10 swb to flat black and lower with a rat, but after realizing a couple grand wouldnt get me anything like that i went to a lot and found my truck, a 1986 scottsdale with a tonneu cover and rims with a drop shackle in the rear as the only upgrades, the paint was faded real bad the dash was cracked and interior smelt like a 3 pack an hour smoker. but i took it for a drive. needless to say i HATED the truck the stock 305 was weasy and smoked, it had no power, handled like a bread truck because there was no swaybar and couldnt go over 55 i bought it anyways and like a good truck it earned its way into my heart, a couple weeks later i pulled the smog and power steering off took out the a/c and hacked of the whole exhaust put some purple hornies on the stock exhaust manifolds, after some hei tuning and carb tuning most rebuilt 350's had a hard time keeping up ( yes it was the original 150thou 305) but thats how it began for me, i just put on a swaybar a week ago lol

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
For me it started when a deal fell trough on a 56 Apache. The seller had this kind of sorry looking 86 c-10 standing in his garage and he didnīt realy have a plan for it, I looked it over and found it to be a solid truck that needed some TLC. The price was right so it followed me home. Originaly I was just going to fix the essentials and drive it. But one thing leads to an other and now it is soon ready for the road again. Here is a pic from when I picked it up.

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
Before 1973. Actually,I started off liking the 3100s. I've never been limited to C10s. I like C20s,C30s,K10s,K20s,K30s and a the GMC equivalents,as well as the larger GM trucks.
I bought my first square body in '81. It was a big block '78 Silverado in Mahogany w/Buckskin interior

Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
I guess I would have to say it stared when I was just a baby........
Grandpa had bought a brand new 79 (the truck and I being the same model year-lol) GMC K25 and outfitted it for plowing their mile long driveway through the woods of Massachusetts. I used to love riding in it and bouncing up and down the driveway. It became grandma's (yes grandma and all 4'11" of her!) daily driver. Years later I had convinced grandpa to sell me the rusted out hulk of the 79 and all of its 28,000 original miles but then he sold it without telling me. Guess he knew best. She was pretty bad off at that point and he knew it was a childhood infatuation and not a rational decision on my part! Sure miss him.... Then in 86 after we had moved to CA from MA, dad bought my uncle's 78 c10 that he had factory ordered and picked up in Michigan. That became my labor of love growing up.... Years later, dad was about to trade it in and I offered him 51% of what the dealer offered him. He agreed and now the truck sits awaiting restoration again.... (building the parts up daily!) Looking forward to Dad and I restoring her together. (again.... did it once already about 20 years ago) In 1999 I bought my first square at a roadside dealer. 85 Silverado. Although she is no longer my DD, I (like the rest of us) continue to dump loads of money into her! Might as well be a new truck already! It sure was a relief to become part of this board and realize I'm not the only one! Guess we are like a support group for eachother 'eh? You know that when your lady calls your truck "the other girlfriend" and tells you to sleep with it, that your hooked! LOL 1st pic: 1983 at grandpa and grandma's saying goodbye as we were moving to CA from MA. Dad on the tailgate, younger brother on the drivers side wheelwell and me on the pass side wheel well. 2nd pic: 1998 while visiting MA, using grandpa's truck to do some yard work. 3rd pic: The 78 around 1988 after dad bought from his brother and mom's Ford Fiesta. (Dad was a wrench for Ford for 32 years) STILL DRIVES A CHEVY! 4th pic: 1999 after I bought my 85 5th pic: The 85 last year after the new paint and I doing my best Charlie Sheen. Re: When did you realize you had it bad for the C-10??
The day I checked my bank account and it was missing a lot of money, and I could look at my truck and not care.. or the day I realized I new the names of all the guys at about 5 different part shops.. or maybe the day I ate dinner under my truck on the garage floor cause it was eaiser than getting out...
nope... it was the day my little dude told me... "cool truck dadda, cool truck"
