Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

Maybe a dumb question, but it's driving me up the wall, and I gotta know before I drop this amount of cash.

IS there any difference between the c20 frame and the c10 frame as far as dropping it is concerned. The crossmember?

Anyone have any idea how much the front will drop once the motor is stuck in, on ECE 2.5 drop spindles and 2 inch drop springs? I'm looking to have the front fenders just slightly over the top's of the tires. The tires are 28.7 inches tall, 20 inch boss 338's with 245/45's.

I spoke with Nate a couple of days ago regarding the touring, coilover dropmember. I just want to know what my options are before I blow that much cash. With additional parts (cpp drop spindles, and all the parts for the whole dropmember, about 4k)

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

From what I've heard, the frames are the same. C20 frames have different control arms and tie rods and ball joints, but frames are same. So the drop should work like a c10. I believe the only other difference is the c20 have a frame insert in the rear to beef it up. I hope that helps. I'm doing the same thing (c20 to c10) and I got it down to the frame today. Still cleaning it up!

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

JUST got off the phone with Porterbuilt, I orderd the touring coilover dropmember and tube arms. Will get the rest of the items (coilovers, steering, cpp spindles) later. Have to hide the expenses from the fiance :P

The plan then is to get the frame chopped for shortbed in the next couple of weeks, and then once all the frame parts arrive, blast and powder coat.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

Got the frame chopped and welded, will posts pics of the finished frame once it's all polished up

Ordered the rest of the porterbuilt frame parts, crossmembers, lower shock mount bar, upper shock mount bar, etc.

All that's left on the frame is to have it blasted and powdercoated.

That looks great! How was it welding the frame back together? I welded mine back, it's square as can be, but I kept feeling like there was a better way. Just curious

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

the welding went well, we measured three times on everything, and ended up with exactly 179 and 3/8 inches overall frame length, if i recall correctly. I'm very happy with it, and we used the frame braces from ECE to weld onto the inside frame.

The build looks great! It's always good to see fellow Colorado members. I'm doing a similar build and will start a build thread soon! I sent you a PM, had a question on a local shop you used if you don't mind.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

It's pretty straight forward, make a cut, move the rear cab mount, remove the front bed mount, measure the **** out of it, and weld it back together. the only issue we had, was during the weld of one of the small side cuts, the frame warped a couple millimeters, (that or the c-clamp moved), not a huge deal, we just shaved that section down, and refilled with weld on the back.

The brace plate, we welded the same direction as the frame, some picture's ive seen show the brace welded in facing inward, where it forms a little box, like [] , we welded it along the frame, so, it looks like.. [[. Does that make sense? Wish I had snapped a shot of it before I came into work.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

I've still got the PB upper shock mount, pan-hard bar, and all frame crossmembers coming.

I forgot that I need to get a sway bar, I'll keep everything the same and get PB's.

I spent the entire day grinding out rivets, removing the C20 extra plate in the rear of the frame, and fitting the notches. All that's left is to blast and paint. As soon as I get the rest of the PB stuff, I'm sending those items out to get powder coated.
