Re: Divorced 205 Install
Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I am having a lot of fun with this part of the build. I am rushed for time. My wife and I are about to close on our first house and its a fixer up'per. I have one more weekend left to finished and have ready for drivelines, before I dive into a remodel for the next 6 months. Oh, Crap; Wish me luck!
First, I was sick and tired of battling my ATF leaking over to the t case. I know other people have fix this, but mine won't for some reason or another. Second, wanted to clock more that the adaptors would allow. Third, didn't want it attached to trans. I broke my trans housing in a mud pit. Forth, I can achieve better driveline angles all around. Fifth, in case the t case breaks or needed maintenance, I could put it out and swap in my longer driveline to keep truck operational.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
I finished welding the crossmember and got it painted. I ordered the new bushings to mount the t-case to the crossmember. I have a few things left to do before use:
1. Reroute exhaust 2. Buy/Install driveline for trans to t-case. 3. Shorten my rear driveline. 4. Install T-Case 5. Buy/Install front driveline 6. Build linkage to connect shift to t-case

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Got my bushings and bolts this week. Got it all setup. I also cut down my shifter. I got a quote today for all new 1 1/2 drivelines - $850. Its going to take some time to save up.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
UPDATE:
Almost there. I had to start from scratch again on the crossmember. Some of my bends were off a little and so it didn't line right, obviously. So The new CM is built and installed and everything turnout perfect. The t-case is installed and awaiting new drivelines. I will get the drivelines ordered next week. I am still working out the bugs on my my shift linkage. I thought I could get out easy, but no. I am going to have to build a add pivot point due to the angle. Everything is looking good! I can't wait to have this finished. Here are some pics. I will have more later. My camera didn't save the pics I took for some reason.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Looks like a nice clean install. That is quite an angle and distance on that linkage! I know the 205 can be a bear to shift... especially when they get bound up..and thats with a short straight shot linkage! Hopefully that second pivot point will give you a straighter shot and enough leverage to due the job. Keep us posted how it works out.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Congrats on a clean install. Are you going to need a skid plate?

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Thanks for the comments. I'm not going to add a skid plate only because its a mud truck and will never see rocks or anything that will get close to it.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Here's a update for ya'll
I picked up the drivelines last week and installed them monday. I took the truck down to finished the exhaust as well. The mid-shaft turned out great! The rear shaft I am worried about. The angle is at 23" and I am getting a vibration/light thumping under acceleration. I am going to add some 6* shims on the rear axle and hope that take care of that. Input is welcome! Here are the pics: Stupid me getting too excited about driving the truck with the tcase and forgot to tighten a set of yoke straps.

Can you give me some specs on your mid-shaft? How thick is the tube and what size yokes are those? Thanks.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Thats a very nice job. I think the only I would add to it are gussets from the flat bar to the tubing, just for more weld area and strength.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Ok I need so help. The drive angle for the rear is to much. I installed shims on the rear axle but the angle at the output of the tcase is too much. Any ideas? I cut out some spacers but things aren't lining up. The expensive option is to add a cardin joint to the driveline. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
If you could clock the 205 higher, it would help with your angle some and might also help with your shift linkage angle. Otherwise, you are going to need a CV joint. Any reason you didn't twin stick the 205 while you had it out?

Re: Divorced 205 Install
Well theres a few problems with that idea. I'd have to build a new crossmember and second that won't help my rear drive angle. I have a solution for the shift linkage. I didn't twin stick it, because I am trying to sell the truck so the less I spend the better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Divorced 205 Install
I am certainly no expert but I am doing a divorced setup myself.
My intermediate shaft has a slip yoke at it's center and doesn't have have quite the angle that yours has. I think that could set you up for vibration. If you could put a little "tilt" to your NP205 you could lessen that angle and, also, help the rear driveline angle, also. The other issue is that with a non-cv joint driveline your angles should be close to opposite to cancel out any vibration. With a CV you can run different angles. (This is how I try to think of it.) Therefore, tilting your np205 may make different angles on your intermediate shaft, however.... I have tried to accurately measure the angles of all my yokes and plan a best course of action from that. Also, I downloaded a "how to" article online on how to best set up your driveline. I hope I helped...

I am setting my truck up with a divorced NP205 as well. Is your truck a short or long bed?

Quote:
-the angle of the rear shaft gets better but the front can get worse, again depending on your joint situation. Not a big deal unless 4 wheel is used alot at highway speeds, then any front shaft balance issues become apparent. -the rear of the motor tilts toward the firewall. Beware of your distributor clearance! Especially if this is an off road rig that's doing some suspension and chassy flexing as the body can make contact with a large cap distributor, breaking it. Just mumbling over coffee... 1 ton, Your truck turned out very nice by the way. Sorry to hear you are selling it.

I GOT IT!!! She is up and moving again. I removed my add a leaf in the rear and added some 3/8" shims to the rear of the t-case mount. No more binding. Tomorrow I hope to start on cutting out the new shift linkage parts.
