Re: Bbw vs sbw
Exactly! Note that all the SBW lovers are SBW owners. These trucks look sooo much better with a BBW.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
I think the reason there are more SBW than BBW's is that our trucks were trucks and people just bought what they needed. The BBW option added "needless money to a build sheet" in a lot of people's minds.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
Wouldn't you rather sit in the shade? The SBW gives a bit of privacy, and the look is more classic, like an old truck should have. BBW was an option, but one I'd rather not have. BBW looks funny on a stepside, as the window is wider than the box sides. Another opinion, for what it's worth, I like the looks of a LWB in a fleetside, it just looks right somehow, SWB looks funny to me. A stepside, on the other hand, looks funny if it's a longbox, has to be short to look right. Just my opinion.

Yep, and the big window optioned trucks were shipped and made available more in the colder regions of the country.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
BBW is safer . For example when driving my bww step side in traffic , I can easily look over my left shoulder at the drivers rear fender area (thru the rear window ) and see if anyone is in my blind spot . I couldn't do that with my last small window truck . If you are running small mirrors that makes a big safety difference when driving in traffic . I find I can also back up my truck with ease , without using the mirrors and without shifting my body in the seat to see both sides . just looking to the left and right you can take in everything that's going on out back with a bbw .

I don't know if I would call it safer.. Sounds like you need more motor ![]() ![]() But in all seriousness, I prefer the look of a small window. I will say though, I think my chasis guy right now would prefer my truck to be a big window with the cage going in to it.

I have always liked the sbw better. It reminds me of the trucks from the 40's and 50's.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
I don't see many of the BBW trucks around either way. Most of the ones I've see have been in the south even the ones that hit ebay. I love mine but am currently working on a SBW stepside....will see how that works out.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
I am of the same opinion as some of the others around here. I like both the small back window and the big back window. However, I like the small back window truck with the stepside beds better and I prefer to see the fleetside trucks with the big back window. This is just my opinion though!!!!
However, this debate proves law of supply and demand theory. Since BBW are more rare and highly sought after...then they command a higher price. And the SBW are more plentiful and readily available then they are cheaper and easier to find. The BBW conversion you can do to your truck if you so choose to do so is a great alternative because you can find a SBW and make it a BBW for not a lot of money. Finally, my first vehicle ever 25 yrs ago was a short stepside SBW 230 6 cylinder 3 on the tree..and on Friday I am going to pick up my BBW short fleetside. My dream was to always have the BBW short fleetside and now I have what I want. Yay!!! I love em all!!!! LOL |

Re: Bbw vs sbw
i love the small window on mine too. Don't get me wrong, the BBW looks CLEAN on a truck done up right, but I was going for a 'ratty' look, and the SBW fits the bill perfectly...

Re: Bbw vs sbw
i have both and like both(2 bbw and 1 sbw, 1sbw parts) ,but the small back window has alot of space on the inside of the cab that is just blank. i dont feal as bad when i use a small window truck as parts for my other three trucks.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
mine was a small window 62 and I couldnt get a 62 title for it (whats the point of having an antique if you cant run a YOM tag?), got a complete BBW 65 with almost no rust and a clear title for 900 bucks. I didnt feel bad for one second about losing the small window.

Re: Bbw vs sbw
I prefer the Big Back Window but that wasn't a deal breaker when looking for a 64-66 truck. The BBW makes it a LOT easier to line the truck up on a trailer tongue. I bought the truck finished and the PO installed dark tinted glass to help keep the interior cool - the problem is - looking through the inside rear view mirror at night the dark window reflects back and all I see is my hood from the rear view mirror. The good thing is after buying my Truck I got to retire my other tow vehicle from its towing duties. Now that back window was useless. But I guess hearses aren't exactly intended to tow anything. You sure get a LOT of strange looks though.
The boat is NOT mine, it's a friends. Sure was a blast towing it around Reno NV though. |

Re: Bbw vs sbw
When I was into the 67-72's, I really wanted a small window. That is until I got my 67 CST. I absolutely hated having the small window about a month after I got it. So when I started looking for a 60-66, the one stipulation was that it HAD to be a big window or I wasn't gonna buy it. Luckily, the right truck came along.
