Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
Thanks man... I'll call CPP tomorrow and see what they recommend. I don't mind servicing from underneath... this truck stands up so tall that it's no problem to get to everything.
Here's a little picture update. I couldn't help but add the bumper. Trying to see what the old/new looks like together: |

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
couldnt find the pics to send but check out post 114 on my build page 5. It went together easy. Just need to make sure you have enough vacuum to run the booster off the motor.

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
nice napco fleetside build
there are disk brake conversions for the straight axle truck, couldn't be too hard to convert your 4x4 front end to one of those. surprised it has the big window and deluxe heater, usually napco's were ordered base package for the forest service or some other gov agency maybe a cab swap in it's previous life?

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
Thanks for the pics guys... I don't mind cutting my one sevice hole if it's discreet.
Bajabob, how would I know if there is enough vacuum to run the booster? Is there a test or something? Would it still work if the vacuum is weak? I guess I can ask CPP. is there a vacuum port off the intake to use to pull the vacuum? Orge... I'm guessing the cab is original because their is original paint that matches other places on the truck. Also, its been in the fam since its early days... the cabs never been off of it in our family ownership. It was even painted doodoo brown with the cab and bed mounted on it. -Craig Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by carrid02; 03-13-2012 at 11:07 AM. |

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
be thankful of that brown repaint, alot of times that thick leaded paint from the early days really helps minimize potential rust damage.
looks like a great start!!! I don't have any answers to your vacuum questions, but someone here is probably running the stock engine and can give you some help. As for the deluxe trim... The cab trim is reproduced, but the bed trim, good luck! I have heard of people paying over $500 for those spear pieces... Nice Truck!! |

Re: 1959 Chevy Apache Napco.
Vacuum for the booster is pulled off of the intake manifold, usually from a port behind the carb. I tested my booster by getting a long hose and hooking it up to my 64 chevelle engine for a vaccum source. Kind of redneck but it worked and I know the booster works ok. Any vaccum pump that will pull manifold vacuum (16# or so??) would work too. Aftermarket boosters have a check valve built into the booster fitting. If the vaccum is weak it will not work, that is why big cam and blower motors have to run electric pumps and use storage tanks for vaccum accessories.
