Re: Am I the only one left?
i'm sure when chevy trucks are mentioned, we're speaking of general motors in general, not just their specific brands. let's not leave gmc out of this equation lol

Re: Am I the only one left?
I'm here... I like a truck with a 2/4 drop or MAYBE a 4/6 with 15 inch wheels and wide white-letter tires... I don't really like trucks that part of the wheel/tire is being hid behind the fender because it's too low, and I don't like lifted trucks at all... but to each his own.

Re: Am I the only one left?
I agree with pretty much everyone who has posted in this thread. I dont like the idea of owning a slammed rig. Pretty much takes every last ounce of usefulness out of the truck to me. But sometimes, they can just look good! Even if i think the owners are nuttier then a squirrel turd!

Re: Am I the only one left?
I have mixed emotions on the high horsepower motor subject. Obviously its awesome when a 4000 pound truck can smoke a light little car, but if I had the money to build a 500 HP motor and have it not be streetable, it would go into a light little car, not a heavy truck. I'd rather run 11s than 13s for the same amount of money. As far as lowered trucks, I love em low. My quad still fits in the bed and doesn't bottom out over bumps, so its plenty functional for me. I also like 4x4s without the hillbilly bolt ons.

I have been thrilled at how my truck is shaping up. I haven't changed the stance much at all, and I think it rides pretty well, all things considering. It also works pretty well as a reuck.

Re: Am I the only one left?
I like mine to look like a stock 3/4 ton, with that 'I'm a truck' attitude. I'd like to build one like that white shorty above, but the potholes on my Michigan dirt road would destroy it. I think my 87 1/2 ton diesel needs a little nose lift, my 77 1/2 ton straight six is perfect.
I love a Pro Stock truck, but just couldn't drive it down my road. And I don't want a trailer queen! So I hope to build a dedicated drag truck and a beater to tow it, thus the best of both worlds. I love the attention to detail and the fab skills of the custom trucks. But at the tend of the day I use and abuse my trucks because they are Trucks! BTW I prefer GMC's. Don't know why, just do.

Re: Am I the only one left?
Mine may be too low for ome, but it's perfectly streetable to me. I have to slow down for some dips and rr crossings, but I do the same in my big truck next to it. I like all that's been posted so far

Re: Am I the only one left?
Lowers better, easier to load stuff in and out of the bed, and they handle better due to the low center of gravity!! I have a 6/8 drop on my truck and the only thing I ever scraped on was my stock exhaust at the down pipe because it was lower then everything else.
Truck did fine with almost 800lbs of tools and wood in the bed as well..

Re: Am I the only one left?
In my opinion the square bodys dont look quite right with bigger rims on them, the lines of the truck are just too square for a large diameter rim, 67-72's however look awesome with or without big rims, i think the wheel arches being round suit the rims better. Still you would never catch me with a set of 20 inch rims on anything that didnt come stock with them.

Re: Am I the only one left?
I twisted and cracked my share of big rims, at the end of the day I felt that it was not worth it. It was annoying to cruise around when I had to think about were I was going all the time.
Any one that will take a truck/car and strip it down and build it up as they want it to be according to their taste has my respect. When I see the stuff ordinary guys can pull off under a car port or in a home garage with a minimum of tools, equipment, and not to forget often on a tight budget. Itīs amazing

Re: Am I the only one left?
i think your correct, i have a hard time keeping my truck off the disabled list but theres nothing wrong with some slicks or 10" + tires more than inches off the ground...as for it being a northwest driver trend....being knee high would clash with the rain and drivers like me and insidious '86 [4] DANGER [

Re: Am I the only one left?
No shortage here in my corner of SW Oklahoma. More bone stockers than you can shake a stick at. Plenty of bagged pavement scrappers. A few donks here and there. You would have to take your shoes off to count the number of high pony trucks running around on 15" tires and wheels with that just right stance. A handful of pro streets prowling around also. Mudders so high you need a grappling hook to get into the cab. I'm just an older young guy (56), but no matter how they put their rides together, I can respect their visions that in one way or another help keep our hobby alive and well. Guess there aren't any lone wolves. There is a pack for everyone. I chose to join what alot said was dead....long live Pro Street.

Re: Am I the only one left?
I agree with boatpuller, everything has to work together to make a truck (or car for that matter) look cool. Another thing I have noticed is how much difference there is in looking at a picture versus in person. I have seen trucks have a perfect stance and wheel/tire fitment in person but look like a four wheel drive in pictures.
The truck in the above post and Boatpuller's are perfect to me, they look awesome in pics and I'd bet they're absolutly killer in person yet are both totaly streetable. You guys both nailed the stance and wheel/tire fitment which is something can easily makes or brakes a vehicle. Last edited by J Lee; 11-23-2011 at 07:10 PM. |
