Re: Theme trucks and props
x2. My wife is asking for a vintage airstream so that we can go camping (...sorry guys, she's already spoken for!).
And - nice truck. I didn't understand the original post because I couldn't believe people would be stupid enough to (a) not appreciate your truck and (b) comprehend that it's your display and you can do what you want. I guess I continue to underestimate those type of people. K

Very nice truck. We build our cars/trucks/whatever, to please ourselves, NOT please others by doing what you think they'd like. If they want something different, they can build their own. Well done I say! |

Re: Theme trucks and props
At first when I read "theme" truck I started thinking about one of those rigs that is painted up like and airplane with airbrushed panels and rivets on it and nose art on the fender. Having it look like a well loved old shop truck that probably has towed half the cars in town back to the station at one time or the other over the past who knows how many years is pretty neat though.
As far as a truck being picked at by others I think my 48 holds the record in that category. Some whine because it's chopped and "too rare to chop". Some don't like the louvers in the hood or the suicide doors or the custom but never finished dash. Some can't understand why anyone would build a truck so low because "you sure can't take it up in the woods huntin like that". Some enjoy pointing out every flaw in the truck and making sure that everyone within twenty feet knows that they spotted them. The truck has been in primer since 1989 and that is one reason I am tired of seeing primer or flat paint. |

Re: Theme trucks and props
I'm planning to do both to mine. I may pick your brain on the door setup later on.

Re: Theme trucks and props
Sorry to hear about the negative comments about your display at shows. I don't get it why people get that way.
I'm currently building a Texaco themed 57 GMC set in the year 1959. Its the station owners personal truck and what he would have done to it in 59. Of course one will have to squint a bit at some of the details. As for this threads title here are some photos of theme trucks and cars, enjoy. |
