Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
Not yet, no. I'm hoping that I can get ahold of him and look at it this weekend, I was on a quick vacation with the wife and some friends last weekend.

86, 1990 front end, lowered, helper airbags in the rear. Has a 454 and an overdrive 4 speed according to the sellers email, so i'm figuring 700r4. asking $4200 again, only the big block is turning me off here. |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
To me the easiest fastest way to get this accomplished is, in order:
1) buy a new or newer one that came that way from the factory. I.e., 2004-5 silverado etc. They can probably get 20mpg. 2) Buy one already made. 3) Get a regular cab frame and plop the crew cab body on top: |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
SUCCESS!
I've found what is, to me, the perfect starting platform. 1985 Crew Cab Diesel. 2wd, SRW. All I need to do to that one is the short bed conversion, and not worry about it being a dually or a gasser. I'm excited. Will be making the 10 hour drive Thursday night, picking it up Friday morning, and making the trek home. Woohoo! |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
UPDATE!
I didn't buy it. Drove 10 hours to Oregon, slept 8 hours, met up with the guy. Truck was solid. Title was in someone else's name. sigh. I told him to get it registered in his name and then I'd consider making the trip back again |

Yea, I was... not pleased when I found out.
I had talked to the guy on the phone a few times and he told me everything was good, my bad for not making sure he had the clear title in his name. |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
2 months later, still looking.
To this day, that one with the bunk title is the ONLY one i've found that meets the criteria I want: - single rear wheel - crew cab - 2wd - diesel I feel like I'm searching for a unicorn. I'm on searchtempest looking in basically all of California every day |

Huh.
That CCLB Diesel is back on the Bend, OR craigslist that had the title issues when I went to look at it. I wonder if it's fixed now. |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
so was the title signed and open? or in another name and not signed? if it was open all you'd have to do is sign your name and roll.

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
haven't heard back yet.
However, I found this one down in San Diego: 1983 Crew Cab the ad says "smog exempt" which in California means diesel -- or registered diesel -- which means I can swap one in if it's a gasser. and my sister goes to San Diego State. Hmmmmm.... |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
ok i'm trying to contain my excitement.
i found a 73 3/4 ton SRW crew cab, and the owner still has it. IT's a gasser, but it's pre-smog so who cares. I hope to have it this week. It's about a 10-12 hour round trip to get it if all goes well. |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
holy crap. they're coming in waves now. a crew cab dually 6.2L that I emailed about just replied back as well.
pros: already diesel, looks to be in better shape cons: dually, non-overdrive tranny (TH400) the 73 would mean doing a motor swap in addition to cutting the frame and doing the short bed. The dually would mean doing the short bed and an axle swap... |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
OK here's what I'm deciding between:
1984 Chevy K-30 Silverado 6.2 Diesel Crew Cab - ad title is wrong, it's a C30. 6.2, Turbo 400. Interior is immaculate. 1973 Chevy 4 door 3/4 ton pickup - 350/700r4, single rear wheel. Interior isn't quite as nice but it looks like the doors were swapped cause it's power windows and locks. Body in primer. Part of me is leaning toward the 73 because I really have no need for a 1 ton and since it's pre-smog motor swaps are a non issue. On the other hand, the C30 I can just do a bed and axle swap and have a CCSB, but no overdrive with the diesel. Really no idea which way to go, but I'm open to suggestions. |

Re: Guess I'll finally post - searching for CCSB!
I think the 84 will bring a whole lot less suprises when it comes to the body. It looks to have mostly original paint and look at the inside of the bed, that truck looks like it has never been worked.
No telling what's hidding under the black primer on the 73.
