Re: Another C20 8-lug wheel question.

Here is mine, 16x9.5 and 285/75 tires, not alot of room left but with stock sagging(broke in) springs it doesn't rub anywhere

Black rims with black truck looks real good. Like that tire size.

I mounted them on my rolling chassis to see how they line up vs. the 8.75/16.5s I had on the truck. The inner sidewall lines up with the center of the top ball joint. I'm hoping there's plenty of clearance. The 8.75s are about 3/4" outside the center of the ball joint. All I can show you is the attached picture with Chevy caps.
Found a set of H2 wheels and tires locally on CL. Tires are 265/70-17. Might go take a look. What do you think about look and price?

I've seen the H2 wheels from $100-$400 for a set w/o tires. I lucked out and got my OEM chrome wheels for $100 w/o tires. Needless to say, I jumped at them. They looked brand new (here in AZ no one wants to run stock wheels on late model trucks and SUVs). The caps were another $100. So, if you can get decent wheels and tires for $200, go for it!

These would run about $250 each and include the center caps. Not sure what the H2 cap looks like. What would I have to do about lug nuts? Would I need to order special lugs for wheels like these?

H2 caps are ugly (my opinion) and won't clear your rear axle. They may clear the front but I don't think so. The lug nuts, if using the Chevy caps, are available from a couple vendors on eBay. They are conversion lug nuts with the inner and outer threads. If you don't use Chevy caps (or any others that attach to the lug nuts) any lug nut with the right taper will do. As I recall you have a 69 or 70. They had 1/2" studs. 71 and up had 9/16" studs. If you converted to disc brakes, you probably have 9/16.

Re: Another C20 8-lug wheel question.

More info....

Here are 3 lug nut sellers on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300655875649...84.m1423.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330609381394...84.m1423.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/380398436903...84.m1423.l2649 I bought mine here, but his prices have jumped.

The only Chevy or GMC caps that I know will fit properly into the recesses in the H2 wheels are the 2001-2006 and 2007 Classic 3/4 ton truck aluminum wheel caps. All others are too big.

This is great information. Thanks for your help. There's no way that I would have ever known this about the Chevy cap size. I would def want to get Chevy caps like yours. Did you say you bought them new?

BTW I have not yet installed front discs, but I'm planning to do it soon. Looking at a couple of suppliers for 8-lug kits (CPP or POL).

Re: Another C20 8-lug wheel question.

I bought my caps on eBay and they were new OEM. I put blue painters tape over the gold bowtie on the one in the picture to see how it would look with the period correct color. I am now looking for for something for a permanent fix. There are a bunch of reproduction cap sets like this on eBay now, but no new OEM caps. They have an opening bid price of $80 or $100 buy it now for 4.

235/85/R16's on newer Chev wheels. Before and after a 2/4 drop.

Re: Another C20 8-lug wheel question.

After seeing the resurrection of my original thread, I realized that I never followed up with pictures of my '69 C20. I ended up installing 285/70-17 tires on Hummer H2 wheels with Chevy caps. The truck has since been sold.

Re: Another C20 8-lug wheel question.

Here's an update on mine. I accomplished my goal of making the Chevy center caps resemble the centers of the original hubcaps (shown for comparison). I finished the restoration in 2015. A lot has changed in 7 years!

Do the H2 wheels bolt right on, no adapter or spacers necessary?

They bolt right on. Center caps may be a problem depending on your rear axle. The Chevy caps I used fit on my Eaton axle. I believe they will require spacers if you have a Dana. Member davepl should be able to provide a definitive answer. The only Chevy center caps I found that fit into the wheel recess are those from the early 2000s 8 lug aluminum wheels.

Thanks for the insight on these. I am looking at a possible- my motorcycle trade for a C20. I'm not sure which rear end the truck has. I may go and see it soon.
