Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I like my stepside did have a 76 fleetside liked it too. Over here in Oz we have the utility commonly known as utes , been around since early fifties. But the stepside was and is not that common so for me a steppy stands out on our roads especially being a chevy and not your common old holden or ford ute. The fleet which I do like looks a bit more like our ute except the cab is joined to the tub on the ute as apposed to the fleet which is not joined.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
As mentioned in my last post , here is a pic of a 63-64 Holden ute note body is one piece. This is a cool model holden and now getting rare but this format of construction is very common place and still used today

I like the stepside because it has curves. But I like all old trucks.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
1Bad62...That truck looks great...makes me want to get the 66 I am trying to get even more. Hope the guy comes down on the price. I like all older trucks, fleet and step, but the stepsides just do it for me...especially seeing one stuffed like 1bad62's...

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I like them both. To me, the stepsides look older.
I also think the small back window looks better in a stepside - adding to the old look.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I dig the fleetsides and thats what I pictured when I bought one back in 2001. I swapped out the step-bed and built a Frankenstein bed out of a '66 and '62.(Gotta do whatcha gotta do!!) I like the steppers in 47-54 and 55-59 and not so much on the 60-66. And, of course with that being said, there are other members trucks on here that change my mind all the time!!

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I like both, I am currently working on my Grandpa's truck which was a long stepper and was going to short step it... I couldn't decide whether to go long wide or short step.... even thought some of leaving it long step.. I spent countless hours trying to decide. Right now it has the long wide bed so I could always go back to long step if I decided to ( hard to do if I cut the frame ). I may build one of my other trucks short step because I really like both looks. ALOT

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I think that the main reason people are uncomfortable about the stepside is that it didn't really change form the 50"s. You have this new sleek design truck with a leftover , sort of afterthought for a bed.

I completely agree. Love steps on 50s trucks, prefer fleets on 60s.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I liked the 55-59 steps and fleet. But the step on the 60-66 look left over. I think if you took the square step of the 67-72 and put it on 60-66 would balance out. I also like the 73-87 for the huge wells. Lifted or lowered those just fit. And those desert rats came out with the fiberglass cut offs...sweet! Moms is a 1996 step and that stands out with the standard cab.

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside

I had someone install Lowe's plank siding w/grooves in bed($54.00 for wood) & I put p-steering and rebuilt carb--it would actually run slow/good enough in high gear on a level road that you could open door, get out, and walk beside it guiding steering wheel thru the window. Had donors in a 1972 for gears & ps & discs & 5-lugs, and a 74k-mile G20 van w/nice 5.7TBI & 700R4 & tilt wheel & ac basics, with many plans when I decided we were getting too many vehicles with nowhere to store them. QUITE reluctantly, I sold it. So, another answer to your question: Still wonder which one I'd be driving to church(or to visit an ex-wife!!!) if I had kept and finished it too. Sam |

I like the Stepside with a small back window because it looks older.
I like the Fleetside with a big back window because it has a more classy sleek look. I think I like them all the same. Posted via Mobile Device

It's like saying you like a certain type of woman or man if it applies. I find the differences to be very interesting and enjoyable, sometimes it's nice to have a change of pace...Vernski

Re: Stepside vs Fleetside
I prefer fleetsides, I've had both but if I were to buy another it'd be a fleet.
