I agree. It would have to sit in my garage so that I could look at it. The first scratch or rainy day that it got caught in, I would cry.

Well, update. Lee (from the ebay ad) wrote me back and said they found the orig. cloth on ebay. Not clear/close enough shots of the fabric to confirm.

oh, and, my 71' Custom Deluxe has wood grain for the lower trim
Ha! Well, I guess I did, didn't I! Thanks for finding it. Oddly, the questions remain unanswered too - all part of the fun. I STILL don't know what the black trim ACTUALLY came on...

Not me, that thing's pure "driver quality", made to drive like a rental and repaint when you're done. Undocumented, fake SPID, mismatch of parts and options, ugly battery, rusty master cylinder, weird spot welds on panels, and the list goes on and on.

If this was someone's truck they painted up, I'd say "nice job you have a beautiful truck". But when its listed as "one of the best trucks that you will ever find", I laugh hard.

It's a $15K truck tops, and the reserve is over $20K at least.

Kind of like at Barrett Jackson when it says "No expense spared" and the stainless trim has never been restored.

Like I said, I wouldn't pick on the truck if it were offered with some humility.

PS: Just one more thing... the V1029TAH on the protect-o-plate leads me to believe it was a 307 truck, which if true takes it beyond sloppy and into the realm of scam, especially since it's being sold as having the original engine.

My bad, they're not specifically claiming original engine, just showing it with a fake SPID showing an original 350. And beside, the "seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness", so they're not promising anything.

One beautiful truck!!!!!! That being said. It's a custom not a deluxe so the seat should be al vinyl not cloth inserted. Should have black trim only. I have never seen a factory 69-70 painted like that (see pic below), wrong side markers, bodyside molding listed twice instead of belt molding, seat inserts are 71-72 style not narrow like 69-70(see pic)

I don't mess with small blocks alot, but I thought the dip stick was on the other side if it was the factory engine.

TAH shows to be a c-20 307 2 barrel. WOW. That's funny but not really very.

I thought that was the case on the paint. I like the 71-72 version of two tone myself. Just me, but I'm no where near a stock only guy. I prefer the of stock look but don't mind changes in drivetrain and suspension. I'm not sure on the dipstick tube either?

That is misleading if it was a 307, they are advertising a 350 40k actual miles.
I have a question about the 307, do you know if it was ever put in a CST truck in 69-or 70? If it was, was it badged like the 8-350 or 8-400 in 70 or
8-396 in 69?

I am pretty sure you could get a 307 in a CST, I doubt very few were ordered/built that way.

307 was the base v-8 so no badges. Only optional engines got a badge, like 292 for the 6ers and 350, 400 (396) for the v-8's

Looks nice! It will fool 90% of the public. My 70 is not all original either, but it's not advertised as such. Looks like they missed it on the mirrors as well. If I'm not mistaken, those are from 67/68.

Thank you for the info. Here is my reasoning, I put a 4.8 LS engine in my truck. 307 is the closest displacement to the 4.8 other than the 292 I6 or the 302 v-8. So, if I can find a 8-307 badge it will go with my CST factory looking badging and trim theme. I haven't been able to find them anywhere aftermarket, any suggestions? BTW, I wouldn't have ordered a 307 either.
thanks

The top of the line trucks were CST's in 1969-70.
The Cheyenne's and Cheyenne Super's didn't appear until the 71-72 model years.
(Highlanders were '72 only?)
There were many trucks produced with the black lower trim.
I was just trying to get a grip on which ones.

I think this '70 ebay truck should have the black lower mouldings, since it's a Custom/10, not a CST.
I know your not talking 72's but my 72 Highlander has woodgrain and is a Custom/10.

Re: what a gorgeous 70 on ebay - WOW

I guess if you want originality you would pay more for a fully loaded CST or chey super in original. When mine is done it will be a frankestien for sure, But it will have as many "original options" as i can find. lol
I still think its to pretty to drive.

Those are just regular ole' Corvette rally trim rings, and will fit a truck 15x8 rally.

I got mine through the Summit Racing catalog (...I think...).

Oh nooooo! that throws all our theories out the window!

Beautiful truck. Quick question - do you have a Custom Deluxe or just Custom - I thought highlander could only be ordered as a Custom Deluxe add-on?? But then again, I'm here to learn.

Love that truck by the way. Wow. (yours - the green one I mean, although I love the 70 gold white one I originally posted too, even with all the nit-picking. I DO agree falsely advertising something is a bad thing though - and there's a bit of skullduggery afoot here I believe....)

You would think someone would have spent a few dollars on a NOS emergency brake release handle for a 20k truck.

It is a custom deluxe and that pic is 15 years old. I wish it still looked that good. I do have all the trim though.

Thats a really nice truck and the work the guy has put into it (original or not) appears to be of pretty good quality.
One thing I use to judge how detailed or fussy he might have been in restoring and maintaining his truck.....is his house and yard, and his is pretty nice. Clearly this guy cleans up after himself.
When I see a truck that has been 'beautifully restored' and 'lovingly maintained' and everything else in the guys yard looks like a dump or wrecking yard, I generally doubt that his vehicle has escaped the wrath of neglect or shortcuts.
I think the price is a bit high and I agree with the $15K range...more or less on this one.
My two bits.

Like this:
Mike your picture of the gold truck has CST badges on it and should have had woodgrain lower mouldings and the woodgrain band on the gate. Now you tell me about the paint pattern I had an elderly gentleman (about my age) ask me today if that was the original paint on my truck and my reply " Sir that truck is all original right down to the air in the tires.

If that truck was for sale next door I'd cut him a cheque for $25K tomorrow. If it as it appears, it's a helluva deal for 20K, I bet his reserve is higher. I love it, adulterations and all. 307 might be a deal breaker tho.
