Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

It's interesting that most all of the single axle 1 tons here are 4x4's so far.

Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

you know, i see your point, ive never looked for anything except full load, 4x4, automatic silverados or sierra classics. just due to the fact they are the highest level offered. i have seen them, but not very often in my searches. i believe the most 2 wheelers ive seen are usually duallys. the factory high option big block, auto, 4x4's are pretty hard to find, but i havent seen very many single wheel 2 wheel drive trucks. funny lol i believe the first two are two wheelers, but i am not as familiar with older models as i am wit 84-87 models.

Mine is the first post in this thread, a single axle 1 ton 2WD and it's loaded with nearly everything. For a 79 that's unusual in itself. I think the build sheet has more than 30 options on it.

I've always had full size long bed pickups for one reason, and that was for towing and hauling stuff, and that's all mine gets used for (otherwise it sits in the garage). Never had intentions of off roading pickup trucks so I just never looked at 4x4's (I have a 4x4 blazer that I use for that). I never realized there were so many 1 ton versions out there.

Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

ive always been interested in the 84-87 4x4 std cabs and 84-91 4x4 crews just because they kinda have the most assortment of heavy duty options and my dad built a few of them. the only reason i have my 87 sierra class gmc, instead of the 86 chevy silverado k30 i had before the gmc is because its a 1 year only truck, last year of old body style standard cabs, and first of tbi(good and bad thing). the true holy grail truck in my book is a late 1991 crew cab full load, but with a 4l80 automatic overdrive trans. thats a rare bird. ive seen a few 2 wheel drive 91 duallys with that trans, but only one or maybe two 4x4s single rear wheels and they go for huge money. and thats awesome your truck has so many options! most truck from those years are optioned kinda slim, like just work truck kinda stuff. i believe though, that in older models like yours, you could not get a big block with the four wheel drive option, kinda wierd, t5hats why i like the mid 80's, they have all the heavy duty options from all the 1 tons over the years put into one truck.

The highlighted portion of your post is correct only if you ignore the 1988 V30 Dooley 2 door regular cab pickup.

A 1988 Silverado 2 door regular cab pickup dually and it's loaded. Built in May 1988 at the Janesville Plant.
1987 was not the last year of "old body style standard cab" pickup.

Silverado Interior
454
T400
205 transfer case
Delco Bose Stereo, tinted glass, color keyed floor mats.
Tilt wheel, Power door locks and windows, Cruise, intermittent wipers
Engine and transmission coolers. heavy duty radiator, heavy duty battery
Auxillary fuel tank transfer case shield, tow hooks, R05 dual rear wheels.
Air conditioning, sliding rear window. cargo area lamp
Chrome front bumper guards, chrome rear step bumper
and more.

1987's are nice too!

Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

that's really cool! I've never seen one, where did you find these ads? those are awesome!, well that throws a shaft in to why i kept my 87 gmc v3500 over my red 1986 chevy k 30! o well, did they really have a bose stereo in them? did any other years before that? i cant remember if mine did or not, i think i still have it, but put a kenwood in my truck when i got it. The GMC works out good too because my dad works at a GMC dealership haha, well thats how im gunna justify it well thanks for the knowledge, i thought i knew darn near everything about the mid to late 80s 1 tons, at least what they made ha learn something new everyday! o is that a truck of yours, or a pic from a brochure?

I own the 1988 V30. The brochure page pictured in post 34 is from the 1988 GMC showroom handout pictured below. The only way to get the 2 door regular cab square body pickup in 1988 was as a 4x4 dually.

Pic also of my 1986 D30.

I prefer 1 tons also.
It started with my used 396 powered 1969 Chevy Longhorn in 1972. Followed by my 1972 402 powered GMC Longhorn version in 1974. Followed that with a new 454 powered C30 in 1976, a new K30 in 1977, a new K30 in 1979 and a new K30 again in 1980 while keeping the 1979 K30 also until 1989. I never traded a pickup in, always had a buyer. I bought the 1988 V30 new. I bought the 1986 D30, military version of the K30 in 2008. So I have had at least one 1 ton pickup continuously since 1972,(4x4 1 ton pickup continuously since 1977).
The paint codes on the 88 V30 are 90 steel gray over 19 Midnight black with LJJ1 charcoal custom cloth interior.

My 1969 Longhorn and 1960 Sportster in 1972.

Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

my buddy had an 89 standard cab 2wd dually with a 454. but it was a cab and chassis. I think the cab and chassis was available to 90, maybe even 91 in the single cab square. he scrapped the freakin truck.

Re: Any other single axle 1 tons??

i was just asking my dad who has worked at a gmc dealer since 1991, he says he thought that the 1988-89 standard cab, and cab and chassis square bodies had to be ordered on a fleet order, or maybe custom order. and i know the crews were available in the full load options through 1991, not just cab and chassis.
