Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66

I'm guessing these are 22". I think it all depends on the drop as to how good they can look. On a static drop, 20" would be the max for me personally.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66

Since starting this thread I decided not to do the 22 wheels and went a different direction.
I just couldn't get the truck to sit and look right with big wheels.
I guess it just isn't my style.
Sold the wheels and I am going for this look on my wifes 63.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66

If you want to SEE what the wheels will look like on your truck just post a picture of your truck and a picture of the wheels over in the photoshop forum and someone will put the wheels on your truck so you know what they will look like.

Take a good side profile of your truck and a good side profile of the vehicle with the wheels you want to use. The better the pictures match, the better the resulting merge will be.

I had the wheels on my truck.
I saw it first hand.
I would either need to put the truck up a little bit higher than I have it or do some significant sheet metal work on the inner fenders...
After seeing the wheel tire combo on the truck I chose a different direction.. I just didn't like how it looked.

thanks, I actually had the wheels in mind before the truck. When its finished being bagged and lays out it will finally have the look I have been going for.

I really like the look of the cut down 22 dually wheels. I am on the hunt for a 47-59 gmc step side and of course an s10 drivetrain/frame to run under it with those dually wheels. I would even like to try a colorado frame and 5cyl this time, with the right exhaust they sound like a ripping small cube small block, and the colorado chassis uses a rack steering and coil over shocks in the front.

I like the new GM 6 lug wheels too but they use a 3" center instead of a 4" center on ours. So we either have to convert the drivetrain to the smaller center or possibly bore the newer wheels. The bolt pattern is the same. I plan on getting replica Silverado SS wheels in Chrome for my '66, though I'll have to decide how I want to fit them.

JMO if they look good but ride like a buckboard that's not a plus, most of the tall rims & tires don't give a good ride. Besides it leads to other problems like modifying the sheet metal around them. So if you want a decent ride over looks that makes the decision easy.I'm not saying I don't like the looks just the harsh ride they give. That's just for me, MO and my soft behind, good luck PMD with whatever you choose...Vernski

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66

These are the only big wheel photos I have. I don’t know what size they are, they’re just too big for my taste. Maybe if the trucks were lower:

I agree Vernski, I just don't like the butchered ultra low look on the 60-66, looks much better on other years. And thanks..

No Mark, that truck doesn't look right at all. It looks like the big wheel look was combined with the 3/4 ton hauler look..

I'm an old hot rodder and it rubbed off on my lovely young bride...
She chose M/T sportsman radials at 18X18 rears and narrow (not skinny) fronts.
I found some wheels that look like the old torque thrusts and with some time to save pennies.. we will get there...

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66

mine doesnt ride harsh, in fact the stock wallered out 65 on 15" 75 series goodyear trackers and stock springs rode terrible compared to the 35 series 22s, I had to drive it 20 miles home when I bought it and that was enough.

its channeled, so it looks lower than it is suspension wise, and still had full suspension travel and gas charged shocks in that picture, it was like riding in a cloud compared to the stock suspension. the front clip with the tubs and the bmw front tilt hood mechanism unbolts like factory and is still separate pieces like factory, so sheetmetal problems dont exist.

its all about perception though, not all of us cut corners to lower and modify our trucks. cant help it if some people dont like it though, guess I can send out refund checks for everything they spent on my truck.
