Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
That's pretty nice set-up. I s'pose the Nova tank would work the same, right?

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
Im glad you mentioned the slow fill issue------------ (I didnt want to bring it up)
If I see what I think I see (?), that could be your fill issue--------------In one of the pics, looking into the filler neck, it appears that your extension is slipped over the existing (on the tank) cap flange. I was wondering if the flange aprox. 6 inches down would cause backsplash when filling. Sounds like it might , if indeed the original neck flange is still there. Ive talked to several guys at car shows who have done this type of tank install---and havent heard of filling issues (with the camaro tank and neck). Anyway, its a thought----------- |

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
I'm tempted to do a similar conversion myself. I just got a '72 GMC 1500 and would like to get the tank out of the cabin.
What size is the camaro tank? So did you end up just leave the original tank filler on the driver side cab? Also how close to the exhaust to the tank? I can't quite tell from the pics you provided? I have dual exhaust that may interfere with this type of conversion. |

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
Wow! That is amazing, kudos to you. I am also planning on moving my tank out of the cab. I appreciate the documentation of your process as it will make my install go smoothly. Cool idea on the gas tank!

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
Just wondering since I saw this last year on the Power Tour. Have you ever noticed gas coming out of the cap on hard acceleration? I was following a guy last June on the tour and everytime he nailed it he would loose a bunch of gas. It would just pour out of the tank. I finally cought up to him and told him. He was like what! His buddy stood behind the car and when he took off it left a nice puddle in the parking lot.
Just something to check on.

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
Nice project MAC. Nice use of the stock tank too. I have one thought/ concern about your tank mounting. In the 4th pic that you originally posted (the one with the washer stack) you have the strap ending with an angle then going over to the bolt. I would think that after a time that the strap would straighten out an allow the tank to loosen. Two choices that might help would be to loop the end of the strap using a bolt with a tee end to bolt it in or to use a piece of angle iron to reinforce the end of the strap. Keep up the cool work!!

Re: My New Fuel Tank Conversion
Did you just use the camaro sending unit? And if so does the gauge read right?
