Correct valve cover decals?

The boys and I took the truck out to it's first "real" car show since I got it back from it's restoration last October. As we backed in next to a 71 in fairly original shape, I glanced under the opened hood and saw THIS:

I've still never solved the mystery for my '70 GMC 402 Longhorn. So far the only trucks I've seen with my particular decal were Longhorns, yet I can't imagine they had a longhorn-specific engine decal.

Other than my truck and the brochure drawing earlier in this thread I've never seen another like it. If not for the brochure I'd think something was wrong!

I wound up, like everyone else, using an "Invader 400" even though its wrong because I just haven't found anyone with a good enough original to undertake a reproduction... but I'll keep bring it up in threads like this in case anyone surfaces with one!

I have a 69 307 and the oil cap is right were the decal is on the pic. I know this may be a dumb question, but could my valve covers be on backwards?

I guess the holes would line up, so they could be on the wrong side. The driver's side of the one I saw today ( pictured below, again ) didn't have any remains of a decal. The owner said he'd had it for three years and it didn't have one when he bought it. I've seen ( and have pictures saved ) of others with the oil cap on the passenger side. The interesting thing about this new 307 original is that the owner didn't know anything about THIS website !!! . . . which makes me wonder how many more valve cover decals on original engines are out there that we'll never know about ?

My 69 with a 350 has had the oil fill on the left side since new. Otherwise it would be covered by the A/C bracket. I've personally never seen a 67-72 small block with it on the right side.

There aren't many with the oil fill on the passenger side, but here are a few I've saved.

Some seem to have it closer to the center of the valve cover ( especially the ones with factory air )

It would be nice to find a picture of a factory 307 w/o air right from the factory! I have started doing quite a bit of research because I want to restore my truck to the way it looked rolling off factory floor. I looked at some of the auction sites (Mecum/Barrett Jackson), plus a bunch of classic car sites, but it is real hard to find to find many of our trucks that are unmodified in some way.

Good question, why doesn't the repop people make this 70-71 8 350 decal? They make just about every car engine decal imaginable, turbo fire this, turbo thrirft that.

So...68&69 have just a 350 sticker and 70&71 have 8-350 stickers.also to reproduce them would require a copyright permission from GM? How do other companies get permission?
Also I think my pass side cover has the oil fill so would the sticker be moved to center or would it not fit? Driver side doesn't get a sticker ever? There must be a memo somewhere at Gm on how and where to place stickers? I would chip in for the copyright fee $5 in addition to the price of a correct sticker. Of course having one
Add for yourself is not infringement but selling them might be. Perhaps you could give one away with the purchase of a t-shirt? Idk. Does GM have a correct truck in a museum? All questions no answers - story of my life

UPDATE:

In regards to the copyright laws, I sent an email to the owner of a company that I've been buying parts from and received the following answer:

"The reproduction manufacturer pays the original trademark holder a license fee to reproduce the part and a royalty percentage for all the pieces he sells."

"There's usually a minimum dollar amount on the royalty volume"

Looks great! Bringing back the authenticity that has been lost over the years is never a bad thing. Does the aftermarket ( who repops just about every Chevy car engine decal) still feel there not enough volume in the truck engine decal business? I, for one, will purchase as soon as they are available.

I "created" the TAX engine code sticker myself from some I ordered from a Corvette catalog.

The Corvette catalogs have all the letters needed, you just have to cut them and make them say what you WANT !!!

Here is a shot of whats left of mine on the passenger side. My truck is a 350 V8, 1970 GMC.

The decal looks very large.

I have since cleaned the engine up some. The air cleaner one has more lettering on it. The valve cover lettering is all gone.
