My version of a Hidden Taillight Fuel Filler

i was sort of thinking something like these



so the rods get clipped in place at the top and bottom, theres a lot of ingenuity and creativity in this design. i want to be able to do it myself some day when i move my tank.

No good update to give. I made a new piece with the changes worked in and started to bend it. I had it almost done before I realized it was upside-down.

Just picked up some more sheet metal and started cutting out a new piece last night. Hoping to have something more to show this weekend or early next week.

In the mean time...if anyone wants to do this mod on the passenger side of their truck, I have a piece available that should work on that side!!! - Matt

Here's the template for the main piece for you guys who are looking for it. I have it in a word doc too, but it won't let me upload it - it's too big. Give me your email and I'll send it if you want it.

The yellow lines are folds. I haven't done one yet for the piece that mounts to the tailight housing. I'll try to get it posted this week.

Thank you very much, Matt! I tried bending some of the sheet metal I had at the house, but it's a little too thick for this task...gonna pick up some thinner gauge stuff and give it a shot.

That's sweet I want to steal it as well putting my tank in back to help with the fuel smell I have from the lt1 I put in and have Ro recirculate the fuel back into the tank

Here's a picture of the first one from the side. The new design (the template above) has a taller stopper wall than what's shown in the photo (on the left side). I've also included a couple of pictures of the piece that goes on the housing and the arms - which are Traxxas part number 3745.

That's really cool! I'd be too afraid to fill it after a nice paint job though! Not much different than the stock filler woes though I guess. Great job!

This looks awesome! Great work. I just ordered the traxxas turn buckles. I always wanted to do the fold down version but couldn't as I do not want to use the factory chrome light trim surrounds to cover the cut needed to fold the brake light down. It looks like this version will work without this trim being needed.

I would like to get the word document with the template.I will send you a PM with my email. Do you have a template for the portion that goes on the light?

I want to get a Boyd's welding tank. Would the side fill tank in the link below work with this mod?

LTS70 - Check your email - the word doc template should be there for you. I don't have a template for the piece that goes on the light. I'll try to work on that for you guys. I got wrapped up in other stuff and this project moved to the back burner.

I'm using the side fill Boyd tank and I got it from Travis at AZ Pro Performance. I actually bought the one they have in the for sale section that had some scratched on it - I'm subscribed to that thread and saw that you asked about it. If Travis hasn't already told you already, it's sold - it's also installed in my frame! See my build thread for pics.

Resurrecting this one....

Last night I ran across the other thread about the hinged down tail light filler... I was worried about how easy that would be to snag the tail light sticking out that way... Just ran across this one waiting to get unloaded this morning and I must say.. This way is so much better due to the fact the tail light cant be snagged when its open and ripped off...

I really think this will be the way mine gets done.

Bringing this one back to life once again for reference... I'll be going with this design... it was an amazing idea and much cleaner than the hinge down design I've seen.
