Re: WTB comfort grip style steering wheel.

Actually, I like that wheel a lot. Period correct, looks in good shape... it would go well IMO.

But then, I look at style, fit and function more than being completely "correct". If it works for you go for it.

Re: WTB comfort grip style steering wheel.

Shawno, here's a pick of the one I just installed in my 72. I also have an original Corvette comfort grip in my 69 Camaro.

What I like about this new one is it's a bit thicker and leather covered.

I was looking at the wheel also, but then the bad memories of my 73 Vega GT starting racing through my head.

Z10,... let me know how that holds up for you.
I had one in my lowered daily driver S10.
It lasted about a year before the leather grip started to look like crap.

I will lowlife but it might take longer that a year. The truck is a toy so it won't be daily driven, and it's in a garage most of the time.

Re: WTB comfort grip style steering wheel.

This "Comfort-Grip" steering wheel was technically called GM's optional RPO NK1 "Cushioned Rim" steering wheel and is my second choice in steering wheel comfort. It was standard on 69-75 corvettes and optional on Camaro, Chevelle, Monte Carlo, full size pass cars in black only ..but also on Buicks in colors !

My all time first choice is a real teak wood steering wheel such as found optional on 63-66 Corvettes. Nothing beats the feel/texture of real wood under the fingers. It grips nice no matter what temp or sweaty white knuckle driving your doing. Plenty of aftermarket offerings out there in real wood wheels these days with a few outfits reproducing them on oem wheel hubs/frames in 14, 15, 16 " diam. varieties. They tend to be pricey but grease wipes off them easily enough

Re: WTB comfort grip style steering wheel.

Shawn, I have always liked the 4 spoke Olds wheels too. Same style and the button / cap from the Camaro wheel will fit them.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-77-4-SP...90f0c8&vxp=mtr

they're a little cheaper too... but still has that same look.

Just a thought.

I like those as well. I am just waiting for that one on eBay to end here shortly. Someone else has placed a bid and I don't want to get into a bidding war so I'll wait to the very end

Well guys I am gonna try this one for a bit. I got it for a song and a dance and I really like the brushed stainless look. Mainly want to try the size and fit to make sure I want to drop the coin on a comfort grip. Thanks for all the input

Re: WTB comfort grip style steering wheel.

Nothing wrong with that one, BUT .. if a CG is what you want eventually I'll help you all I can. I go to a swap meet in Alabama on occasion and a guy there usually has a rack of them in all colors. Various originals, different condition.

It seems a bunch of them wound up in that area.. who knows.
