Funny thing is the truck was a long bed and the kept it a lond bed still saying it was a short bed. I think the show is just that a show just entertainment for the masses not really anything to do with reality. There suppose to be car guys in the industry and don't have a clue what there talking about or maybe there just reading what the writers have written for them. Everyone makes mistakes but to look like some hipster doofus just to get a TV show is not worth it to me. But it doesn't seem to bother Danny aka The Count.

I did not really pay that much attention (I assumed it was a SWB)...just what he paid for it, what they did to it, and what they sold it for. They did nothing to the interior, the truck still had the same cheap seats that came with it. They don't even pop the hood once. The one worker told the prospective buyer that the paint job alone cost 15K More power to him if he can flip a truck for that kind of coin. Like folks say though, it is a "reality" show and who knows what is real and what isn't.

I think is cool that you were asked and if I was in your position I would do it in a heartbeat.
The show is what it is which is alot better than 90% of the other garbage on tv since it is about cars and motorcycles.
Fast and loud I think is hilarious I laugh my butt off with some of the crap Richard says.

Different strokes for different folkes is my say what some of us love others hate and vice versa. Take it for what it is and roll with it.

I'd like to meet the guys from the show. Far as selling them one of my cars? I'd tell 'em to get lost & screw up someone else's vehicle for their profit machine, I mean TV show

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

Cant believe how many of you dislike the TV shows. First of all, the producer decides how the show is going to go. There is no script or actors, hence the word "reality". But the people on the shows are often told what to do. Building a quality car in a couple weeks is possible when you have enough people working long hours. Ive worked 20 hour days to make a deadline. Its tough but people do it. As far as making the auctions and pricing, the auction is what the producers want. It creates drama, which attracts viewers. When people sell their cars and get low balled, nobody forces them to sell. Its their decision.

I say that if they are going to make money off of your appearance on the show, then they should pay you to appear.

I myself would be afraid of local car thieves getting a heads up on my stuff.

via wiki: The show was created with a DIYer in mind. The costs, and thus any profit or loss for a given project, are assessed without consideration of the cost of mechanic Edd China's time (assuming that a well-equipped and able enthusiast could complete all work himself) but if repairs require professional help, like body resprays or windscreen replacements, they are added to the final cost.

Thanks Mozart.
We all know its for entertaining purposes only, my question should have been.. How much would these cars be if labor ( which is a factual expense) was added to the bill..

Same as if you are buying the sellers stuff is worth a lot, if you are selling your stuff aint worth jack..

And dont even mention the price of purchase, you can say you bought a 68 cherry truck for ten bucks and some sucker will always say its worth 8 bucks if so...!!!!

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

Thanks for your input everyone....Here's a quick update....

So after sleeping on it several days I communicated with the casting lady sending her some pics of the 1969 FB (posted on Adams Polish forum) and a link to the truck build. I ask "what ideas do you have"?

So she comes back asking (no suprize) do we want to sell the bird? Yes or no we are welcome to come to Vegas ( next 6 months) to do a "pullover" scene with Danny.

Next she says the truck also looks good. No kidding.....
That could possibly be included in the episode and presented by yours truly.

To date my son Justin has been lukewarm at best to going through with this.......My feeling...it would be real fun, have some laughs and do something we'll never forget.

Comments....

Well, there's your answer..... a once in a lifetime experience indeed. Besides, think of the rest of us -- we'd get to live vicariously through you (albeit briefly) and we'd get more insight as to what really goes on behind the scenes on these TV shows that we either love or hate, but always watch!

Love him or not, rag on his head or whatever .. he's still a pretty cool dude. I like him, and he's got a huge pocket full of money. I hear he has somewhere around 80 cars. (maybe more?) .. just in his own personal collection.

You never snorted tequila before? AKA the "Chilly Willy". Actually, I haven't done that either but I was with a couple of recently deployed and discharged soldiers with that crazy look in their eyes one night. They asked the bartender to put shots of tequila on the bottom of upside-down shot glasses, then proceeded to snort it and make all kinds of faces and weird noises. Not a word was said, we were still standing there dumbfounded when security came and escorted us all out.

That long bed truck was kind of a laugh, but hey it's TV. I just can't believe that somebody paid all that coin for it, nothing special at all and the "flavor/design/theme/etc" was just yuck. But I watched, its better than whatever the wife is watching!

Okay:

Do what you (and Justin) want to do. If anybody else doesn't like your choice (except maybe a wife or S.O.), that's their problem.

That's great advice....Right now I'm in favor of doing this but if Justin doesn't agree it's a non-starter....

In the last year he's also branching out into road course driving (1999 C5 vette) in NASA HPDE events. His favorite tracks are Infineon and Thunderhill in N. CA. He's a damn good driver who's aiming to earn his competitive racing license. I'm just his crew chief....

We've been seriously working together on cars for the last 10 years. I'm proud of our projects and cherish the time spent with him around cars.

I'll let you guys know what happens next....

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

Grow a big beard. Shave it after your appearance and require they not use your real name.

I can't even keep track of how many "We buy a car and restore it in a week" shows there are now. And the premises get weaker and weaker... saw some ridiculous one on Velocity where they were restoring cars in a junk yard and magically found all the rare mopar console parts they needed in the trunk of an Impala. Still had Year One stickers on them.

Actually, the whole "We have do X by an arbitrary deadline and chaos ensues" thing is creeping into everything (even NOVA on PBS). I'm really looking forward to the cultural flip to when it becomes "We took our time and did a great job on X, see how amazing it is?" And no one wants to show process, even though everyone claims to want to see it. Last time I bothered to watch "American Restoration", which started off OK, people just dropped things off at the beginning and picked them up at the end, and the time between was BS family drama.

The car shows that predated the reality fad (like Powerblock and Dream Car Garage) devolved into nonstop advetising segments... how much Royal Purple do I have to buy?

But there's always been a niche for cheap to produce shows. It was game shows in the 70s, Cops shows in the 80s, Home Video shows in the 90s, and bogus shop shows today. Only now there are 10 times as many channels, so they crank out 10 times as many shows at 1/10th the value.

Could you imagine if "New Yankee Workshop" was still made today (heck, maybe it is). That guy would have to build a China Cabinet for the auction on Monday without wood and without showing you any of how he did it.

The only thing Ive seen with more BS than the car reality shows--is a feed lot.
Most of it is sooo fake its not even entertaining. They definitely target the "non car guys."
