Re: What is a Square Body?
I picked up the term "aerotruck" somewhere for the 60-66s. Sort of fit in my mind because that have that really detailed "jet age" Harley Earle, styling to them.
I wish there was a good and common descriptive for the '67-'72 other than by year. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What is a Square Body?
I'm thinking that "Grumpys" a name of a 66-72 parts supplier in Phoenix is being confused with that year, I never have heard grumpys being applied to a 66-72.

Re: What is a Square Body?
I see where you're coming from on that just never really hear that used commonly. The mid 50s and earlier trucks are quite a bit more round though so I always struggle with the thought of calling the 67-72 "round bodies".
That Wikipedia link is interesting... "Action Line" is a pretty fun description and calling them "second generation c/k" is a bit clumbsy, but somewhat consistent with how I typically refer to Camaros and Vettes. It does seem a little funny to call a '63 a "first gen" knowing that there were decades of pickups that came before it... This is a really entertaining and interesting topic to me. Thanks for bringing it up! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What is a Square Body?
We have always referred tor the pre 55 chevy trucks as the "fat fender trucks", and then just simply by year 55-59, then 60-66, 67-72, then came the term "square body", and everything else is just called "newer sh**".

One of the best looking pickups (my opinion) made. Just love the look, front ends remind me of the willys (another good looking truck by the way ) and a very popular gasser back in the day. |

Re: What is a Square Body?
We have been caling the 73-87 trucks square bodies forever. Guess I better change my name to BLUE ROUND. Ha! like that will happen. I don't know about you guys, but my truck is "Square", and that's what I'm calling it.

Re: What is a Square Body?
Square used to mean you weren't hip. Now it's a catch phrase for a pickup truck

Re: What is a Square Body?
Yours is not a 67-72. Those are referred to as round bodies by some. Its a 73-87 right? So that is a Square body.

Re: What is a Square Body?
Fat fenders continued 'till either the first Cameo or the first available steel sided fleetside in '60. It would make my '55 a bit pissed if someone told him he wasn't a fat fendered Chevy, prolly be some kinda fight

Re: What is a Square Body?
I just read through the 1973, 1974, and 1975 Chevy Pickup showroom brochures and not once read the phrase "round bodies".
Not a fan of wrongpedia either. Anyone that refers to a 1987 C/K model is also wrong. No C/K's built in 1987. And anyone that belives the 73 2 dr body style ended in 1987 is also wrong. There were still some 2 door, regular cab pickups built in 1988. |
