Re: The "patina" fad is getting out of hand!
I agree I wouldn't spend money to make fake patina, but I have no problem will rolling patina if it was created over time and did not cost me a penny.

Re: The "patina" fad is getting out of hand!
its a mixed bag for me. i really like original faded trucks, but they are cooler to me as beaters. they dont need 5k worth of suspension mods and 3k worth of wheels. that kind of ruins the idea of saving money on paint. but, they all appeal to me. if its tastefully done and there were no shortcuts taken in an effort to have everything remain looking aged or old then i will like it. for me, i will rock old crappy faded paint, if i bought it that way. i would never spend time waiting for matching "patina'ed" parts or spend a dime to fake it.

I think shiny purple paint and tweed interior would ruin these cars. |

Re: The "patina" fad is getting out of hand!
I like seeing vehicles being built with a purpose. I hate themes though. Kinda like seeing the OCC Choppers that would get built. They'd build something like a screwdriver bike? With patina and faux finishes it's either really good or plain tacky. Tacky like clear over a patina and rust kinda thing. Weither it is rat rod or hot rod there's a strong thin line. To me I don't like a bunch crap hanging off a vehicle and I don't like seeing vehicles that don't get driven. I'm not into show cars, it's not my thing. I also don't like seeing vehicles that were slammed together with no sense of direction. I don't feel that's hot rodding either. I used to build models when I was kid and put all sorts of parts together to build some sort of frakenstein thing but I had better taste than some guy with a rod iron fence on his car. Although I get bored sometimes with the whole worn in look. I like a truck to look like a truck and feel as though it could do it's job. I don't care much for modern motors in patina'd vehicles either. LS are great for that '69 Comaro but for your truck not really. It don't do anything for me. I also don't get patina'd look with big inch wheels, I'm talking 22s and 24s. Sorry but I don't care for it. Do I like shop trucks. Occasionally. Some look sincere and others look like a promo gig gone wrong. I also don't want to see some funky crappy two tone paint jobs like you see these days.
So for me what I do like is a truck that feels right at home hauling the hay. Doing what trucks did best for so long before they became glorified cars. I like'em simple and functional. I like'em with a sense of purpose and poise. If you lower it make it useful. Make it simple and functional with some style. Just my two cents.

Re: The "patina" fad is getting out of hand!
My 55' dodge wagon is the best car I own body/paint wise. Its two-tone blue and white, its art on wheels. I park 20 spots away from anyone because im worried about dings and scractches. My Travelall is 180 deg out from the dodge. Its 4" off the ground, rusty, loud, and people are stare at me like ive lost my mind. Both put a smile on my face. My 59 chevy has oxodized laquer paint, my 78 GMC is just plain ugly, and my 88 sqaure body dually has peeling paint. OMG i'm all over the place LOL.

A friend may have put this in perspective saying----its what drives us crazy after years of hand rubbed lacquers/chrome ect---it makes you want to dig into it with plenty of sandpaper/primer paint and elbow grease----its teasing you to do it.
