Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
I thought it was the 67 didn't have the A pillars painted white and then after that year they did get white A pillars.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
All joking aside, SSTim's information IS correct and answers the OP's question.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
My truck came from the factory as silver/off white. Someone repainted it at some point, do you think it is all the factory off white now. I wish there was a better picture a few posts above, but it defintely looks similar.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
I wasn't joking. The OP asked "What year did they start with the white roof?". Assuming "they" is GM,since this is a GM Truck forum,I answered the question asked. We could also assume the OP only meant 67-72,since this is the 67-72 message board, but that wasn't specified and being specific to 67-72 is irrelevant since GM Trucks were available with 2-tone many years prior. If the OP meant to specify between just the top painted rather than to down to the bottom of the windshield and door windows, then '68 was the first year for the latter and '67 was a unique year. As far as what paint code and White vs Ivory, that's splitting hairs. When I look at Ivory I am seeing a shade of White.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
Mitch,
This is very hard to do like this but... From the picture alone using the house I would say it is probably Ivory/off white. However the only way to know how close it is to the factory color would be to have a small amount mixed up to the color code (see chart) and compare. Your truck is listed as 4526AA OFF WHITE correct? Now is the truck in the picture background your 68 Longhorn? If it is great. The truck in the foreground is a known Off White truck. You can see how close the trucks are in color.

But on topic of the question, they were doing the white/ivory colored roofs well before the 67-72 body style. My 67 has a body color roof, but there is a original 67 down the road from me rotting away in a field with a white/ivory roof, along with a 65 a little ways down the road, also with a white/ivory roof.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
Just to be clear...My original question was meant to pertain to 67-72, my fault for not stating specifically. Perhaps the 68 I saw was an ivory color, so the use of the word white may have been a bad choice. But Id say its been covered(not the wagons):-)

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
Gotta remember that color scheme naming is never black, blue or brown. They get names like Raven Black, Royal Blue, Autumn Gold, Sandstone Brown, Cherry Ice, Emerald Green. These are colors of some of the vehicles I've owned.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
For some reason I thought that you had a silver face on an Ivory truck. The silver is a nice color we don't see too often. Was pretty sure that was your Longhorn in the background. I had saved the pictures from that Custom Camper's final day but not a link or name. Did you save the glovebox door/SPID by any chance?

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
That is always a problem, generally I try to stick with the trade names like you see on the cards and SPIDS. The sales names often are not much help just creative.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
Interesting question. GM changes the name of a color from year to year, as can be seen from this reference- Here's an example I found just for Chevy trucks-
http://paintref.com/paintref/model/w...%20Truck.shtml Cars that I have seen painted "white" have had various names attached to them, like "Ermine White", "Classic White", "Something Grey", etc. Frankly, I'm kind of puzzled by all this, since whenever I went into the paint store to get white, I've always asked for GM #11 white. I'm pretty much a Chevy guy (except for the occasional Poncho, and I currently have a '68 Buick California GS). The guys always know what it is, and have it in stock. Note that it isn't really "white", like there is a definite "color" there. If you went to the paint store and asked for "white", without any tint, you'd get something totally different. But that would be the same every time, since it has no tint pigment. A little stark, for my taste. I just painted my '68 GS roof a shade of white that is pretty pure, and I'll probably tone it down a bit from that by doing it again with a little blue tint, since the dark blue lower portion is in high contrast. At least it isn't black, so nobody thinks I'm The Man. Well, the doors aren't white, either...

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?
I think the OP was referring to white in general. Not a specific shade. Elephant tusks are ivory, yet the same as our teeth we call white (see?>) . With all paints it's the code that matters, not the name
