How are you going to patina the fresh new outer rockers?
they did it on a Trucks (Powerblock) a couple years ago. luckily most of the fade is on the top, so it would be pretty easy to blend in new paint on the rockers since the color is more solid down there.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Tim... you're at it again.

ORIGINAL PAINT.... there is no question.

I would replace the rockers and then find a good shop that will blend the new paint to match the old original paint.

Is that seat cover as nice on the driver's side as it is on the passenger's side?

AWESOME BUY!!!

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

I am Nate! Yes can you believe that. Amazing that it only has that little hole on the pass side and that is it.
I am leaning towards keeping the patina yes.
As for the questions about how I am going to make it look the same. I am definately not a body and paint guy but hopefully the body shop can do a good job of making it look close. I know from American restoration you can use corn starch to flatten paint.

I'm with the others who say fix the rust and mechanical issues and enjoy it. I'm having more fun with my Blazer with less than great paint than any classic I've owned because I drive it where I want without worrying too much.

Cool truck and since you asked, I'd keep the Patina....took a long time to get that way and I like the way it looks.
Yes the truck is from the front range / denver area

Nice truck. That paint job is 41 years in the making, not going to hurt anything leaving it as is for now work on everything else and paint it later on down the road if you want.

Good plan. Leave it alone. That's what I've done. Way too many other things to spend money on anyway.

My wife has always given me sh!t about my patina. Well, the other day we passed by a 67-72 chevy that had a fake patina paint job all the way around, and the shop logo on the doors (you know the type). I'm like "look babe, that dude spent money to try to make his truck look like ours, and it's fake and doesn't look as good. We have the real deal". I could tell for the first time it started to sink in lol

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

Actually I wanted some input. I amcurrently thinking I will leave it as is. It wont get any worse as it will sit in the garage and come out for short rides on nice days so no fear of it getting worse. At the same time i am dreaming of how nice it would lookwith new paint. Of the 44 of these I have had I did re paint one this color once and it sure looked nice.
I am going to enjoy it as is and when or if I get the urge to paint it thats what I will do.
More pictures as soon as I can get them

If it were mine I'd throw some Mister-B style steelies on it and ride out. It's only original once.

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

nice truck! would look great either way. I would submit that faux tina is a fad. Real tina aint. Just looks cool to see an old beauty like this in her original skin. I am not a fan of the BIG patina look where all you see is rust and no original paint - but this one is just faded, and nicely, and I think it looks pretty cool. You're right - you can always paint it. Fix the rockers and try to roughly match em to the paint. If it doesn't work, you haven't really wasted any time at all, you would have had to fix them anyway.

Paint it while it's an easy resto. That truck will look proud and ready, rather than well used but still running

Re: Patina or new paint for my new 72 find?

I might have to start a threat for donations to fund a paint job. LOL!
Gonna start with taking it to a paintless dent removal guy to get as many of the dings out of it as he can and then hope for better weather to get the rockers done. Actually polished it up yesterday and now its patina'd and shining.
Loving it!
