Re: 74' by Jabes...

Refinished the sway bar in hammertone.

I started pulling apart the interior. The dash has a few holes someone drilled. I plan on welding them up, priming and refinishing the dash and cab. Im tired of it feeling like a beater from the inside.

Re: 74' by Jabes...

I have all the trim to install a headliner, but I'm not quite sure if I want to install it. I don't like the idea of drilling all the holes into the cab. I installed my visors today and had to drill a few holes to mount the part that clips to the visor to help hold it up. Wasn't hard to do, but if I change my mind about having a headliner I have a lot of small holes to weld up. :/

Re: 74' by Jabes...

Its way too nice of a night not to be doing something productive in the garage. I love summer.

Well, pulled back the carpet... not too pleased with what I found under it and don't remember it ever looking so bad :/ Grabbed a spray bottle, copper spoon, grinder, angle die grinder, sanding disk, 110 welder and the associated safety equipment. Prepped the holes to be filled and went to town. I'm willing to bet my neighbors aren't pleased with me grinding and the air compressor cycling twice. Sorry guys...

Prepped the holes to be filled with a disc on the die grinder...

Made a few tacks. I let it cool with the spray bottle and a rag, so I didn't warp the dash or burn through it. Rinse, lather and repeat...

Knocked the tacks down with the grinder, then hit it with the disc... rinse, lather and repeat...

Finished for tonight... its getting way too early and I'm pretty sure someone is going to call the cops... :/ Well, after owning this truck since I was 16 years old, its the first time I don't have to look at those ugly holes anymore. Feels great! Still more work to do to the dash...

Well.. the can of Polyprimer I had was no longer any good. I need to buy another gallon :/ I guess I'll skim some filler over last nights work, sand it and leave be. Taking a break tonight...

Re: 74' by Jabes...

A little more work done tonight on the dash... sanded it down, skimmed some filler onto the shallow lows and ran the cheese grater to knock down the highs. I'll post some pics of the progress later. Goodnight!

Re: 74' by Jabes...

Going to get the cross member mounted tomorrow and put some exhaust back under my truck. Next install the power harness for the power doors. Huge thanks to JCampbell for the parts!

Re: 74' by Jabes...

A little more prep work, spread some filler to take care of a few lows and glaze the welds...
Taking the highs out of the filler as its curing with the cheese grater...

Instead of jumping in her "Pit Crew" bounce house, it was more interesting and fun to give me a hand sanding down the dash...

She does pretty good work!

She helped me hang the power harness for PW, PDL for the new doors. Father Daughter time...

Re: 74' by Jabes...

I also pressure washed and hung the new cross member. I went from a double hump to single drivers side hump. I was a little nervous that I was going to be doing a lot of drilling, but luck was on my side and I only had to trim a little off of the end that mounts near the gas tank on the outside frame rail. The double hump cross member has two holes to mount the transmission and the single has only one hole...luckfully, my polymount had three holes! Hung the exhaust with very little trimming and adjustment, still took awhile... however, my luck was about to run out before I even knew it. I crawled back under the truck placed two tacks and low and behold, I was out of wire :/ ROFL....

Re: 74' by Jabes...

Its been a long time since this truck has been my sole form of transportation. Well... this is my DD for the next week. I trust it completely, it just needs the tune more refined. My next bit of work its going to be aimed at my dash. My mother made me a cover to stretch over the original dash, but the cracks are starting to show under it. I'm going to smooth the dash out, fill the cracks and probably learn to do a little sewing. My mother did the first dash cover when I was a Freshman in high school, which to this day still looks good, but I want to put fresh material down and not have any cracks under it. I have a set of 98' Chevy truck seats I might try my hand at recovering as well, but that's waaaay later. Only thing I plan on doing today is washing the truck, getting some sleep and spending some fun time with my daughter.

I just searched his threads... what violations? I don't see any for sale or want to buys? Posting this pic of our trucks from today is his last post... is there something I'm not aware of that makes it a violation?

Yes he did, it is a shame he chose to push the limits and get suspended due to it.

Sorry, but not policy to discuss others accounts. We do not just randomly ban folks though.

believe it or not, I have been on a "friendly" basis with this member for years. However, things happen and folks choose to do as they do no matter how cool or nice they may appear.

Re: 74' by Jabes...

Its been awhile since I've worked on the truck... the above was a buzz kill. I did however do a little laptop rodding. I'm running the c950 and something didn't seem right with the throttle response...long story short, my timing wasn't in sync at higher RPM's... 400picosecond delay was needed. Its a little better now... but tuning this thing is a pain. If I had the money I'd get a newer self tuning setup or take it to be tuned on a dyno. Then again... I wouldn't be knowledgeable or understand the system as much as I do. I still have to work on the dash and prime the interior, however I need a new HVLP. Steady as she goes... :/

Re: 74' by Jabes...

Your truck is cool Jabes. Your stance is pretty much how I want my 74 to sit one day. Yeah, that's a shame that J C is off here. He sure knew his trucks.
