Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
its alot worse to hack and wack a perfectly good longbed into a wannabe stumpy than to paint a truck a color u like

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
its yours do what you want id rather have a truck that I wanted if I was you! with what ever color or drive train that you want. #s matching and factory 50th colors wouldn't matter. id rather have it the way I wanted than the way some purist think it should be.( paint it the color you like ) and don't worry what others think . jw

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
As many have said it is your but...
If you were to sell it ... I would think the factory colors will fetch you more $$$ than a not factory colors ...if they were into these trucks. For some they could care less. For the Circuit Rider I kept her fairly stock and what I did change can be easily changed back to factory specs. Good luck

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
I think the reason that this is a dilemma for some (such as myself) is that this truck was painted a particular color for a special reason. I'm not a true purist at heart. I'm all about making any truck your own. And usually I have no problem doing a color change, but for some reason this particular color combo is sacred to me. As a matter of fact at one point I was going to try and recreate a 50th anniversary stepside.

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
since you asked... WHITE/GOLD all day long. But, as stated above, it's yours, so you can do whatever you like of course. If you're updating the driveline, what about a CLOSE combo to white/gold. Gold/white (i.e. reversed) would be nice on a really slick truck.
If the anniversary colors were pink/purple, we'd probably all be saying change it - but white/gold already is a very cool color combo to begin with. Good luck, would love to see some pics! Love the anniversaries. |

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
Why not just worry about whether to paint it or not later? I know my initial plans for my truck have changed quite a bit since I got it. Paint is only original once. I am SOOOOO glad I didn't paint my truck

Post up pics and see if you can sell it for more than what you paid for it, maybe buy a truck you'd rather have.

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
Just because you asked...swap the LS and leave the paint color!!!! It's a 50 and IMO itll help keep the value. But in all reality it's your truck...paint it what you like and drive it!

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
It's not uncommon to see high end Ferraris and other collector cars with color changes to increase their value. If those guys do it, then us pickup guys darn sure can.
If it were me, I'd do the gold and white, but I'd pick a brighter gold, then you get the best of both worlds: the 50th colors and something that not everyone and their dog has. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
If its already got an LS swap then who cares. It's already modified and no longer original so paint it whatever u want. I would stick with some sort of factory color scheme though.

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
As Tbone said if its in original condition, leave it. If it will take a lot of work and hunting for original parts to put it back to stock, do what you want with it. Keep in mind though,a nicely retorted 50th will get more attention at the local show& shine than most modified trucks. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
I'm not much on "restorations", but there are exceptions. I've always enjoyed doing my vehicles as I see them in my mind and hoping they look as good to others as they do to me. Still, just as I do things for myself and how I want the end result to look, you should decide how you want your truck to look and perform and work towards that end result.
With that said...I think there are so few truly unique versions of these trucks, and the 50th Anniversary trucks are fairly rare (at least I don't see a lot of them running around). I think I would consider keeping the 50th truck intact and do the paint/motor/other mods to another truck. Just my $.02 worth!

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
Technically wouldn't any '68 be a 50th anniversary truck? This one just happens to have a certain paint code. If it was a paint code that equated to crap brown than changing it to black or red would increase the value. I'd rather a nice fresh blue or red on a solid straight body than a faded gold/ivory on a truck full of holes, but up here in the rust belt we have a different take on things.
What exactly is the book value difference on a 50th anyway? It doesn't even come up as an option on the NADA price guide. Not trying to stir anything up, just trying to figure out what's so special about a truck nobody knows about outside of here. Also GTO Judges came in a variety of colors. So did the GSX and Copo Camaros and pretty much everything but the Silverado SS. |

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
this was one of the only things GM did to really celebrate they haven't done anything like that and probably wont till kingdom come.. and us 67-72 guys should be lucky that it just so happens our beloved body style just happened to land on their 50th. they didn't poop out a bunch of 50ths so that makes them kinda rare. plus them getting scrapped and repainted over the years how many are left? there a beautiful truck and there aren't many. they are a landmark in GM and US history. I wish they would get the respect they deserve.

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
Why is it so important though? It's a color code on a regular truck. It isn't even the 50th anniversary of Chevrolet or of their first truck. It's the 50th anniversary of their second truck. I would think a 1964 would make a better anniversary truck.
Does anyone know the production totals on that version? Is it super rare like the ls6 Chevelles or was it like the 25th edition Camaro? |

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
Not all 68's are anniversary edition because GOLD is the color for the 50th anniversary. It's called the golden anniversary.
You can always repaint it later. Hold off and wait and see if it grows on ya. Since you don't have it yet. If you are set on a repaint wait for another truck to come along. If you aren't sure buy it. You can always sell it later. There is my .02c

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
I love the 50th paint scheme and would paint it the same, updating the power train, thats a given.
Is this the truck you are looking at? http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/3738235946.html

Re: Is it a crime to change colors of a 50th Anniversary?
I'm not very good at math but I still know that 50 years from 1918 equals 1968 if you have proof that Chevrolet started building trucks in 1914 then by all means share. Other then that I don't see how 64 would be there 50th.. On the other hand there's alot of truck chevy made that would have looked good and been a good candidate for there 50th year but you can't change the past so might as well embrace it. 67-72 was one of the most advanced trucks for it's time. There are still probably a bunch of designs for basic structures and options that are still being put into the new pickups even after 46 years. With that being said this is the perfect truck for the job.
