I'm hoping I can get away with leaving it as it is! but I might have to recam it. The guy who built it told me it made around 450HP and about the same in torque. I can't wait to drive it!

Well it has been far too long since I posted an update last… Sorry about that. Yes, the build continues, albeit slowly as school is back in session, and I find myself with fewer and fewer hours to dedicate to the truck.

However I have received my Tremec T56 Magnum!! Boy is it pretty! I can't wait to drive this thing!

I went and got the heater core box powder coated a little while ago. Shiny Stuff!!

Well we managed to get the 283 out of the truck so we can test fit the new motor and trans.

The three speed has quite the leak!




The 283 is getting put on an engine stand for storage.We are DEFINITELY NOT getting rid of it as it is the factory original. I would like to rebuild it one day and maybe put it back in..... but for now it's time for some 415 power!!!



The frame just looks so lonely without a motor in it....

Progress continues slowly.... However I did purchase a tach from summit racing that will fit in the factory location!! I really liked this one because it looks very similar to the factory one but goes up to 8 grand! I will be painting the needle to match the original color. For right now I have it installed in my 66, until I restore the dash in the 65.

That is a possibility. However, I think I have two more C-10s lined up to do after this one so they will be staying until those are finished .... If I only had more time...

Glad to join in on the build. Had to laugh at the rust spots you found. Mine was a Fred Flintstone truck when I got it apart. Your cards look good and that motor is sweet.

Good plan on keeping the 283. I have been looking for a 1957 283 for a couple of years to put in my 57 Bel Aire. Not easy to find original motors for a particular year.

Yeh I had been looking for one that was in "hundreds" for quite awhile and saw this one on sale too! I love it so far! Only weird thing is that it seems to read much too low at idle (around 300rpm) shouldn't it be around 1k?? Currently I'm running a 350 with a powerglide.

Yeh those rust holes..... Still need to get started on patching them up. Thanks I really want to hear this motor run! I'm sure it will give me a lot of motivation.



Questions to all of you guys that have installed air ride suspension systems in your trucks.
I have been contemplating going all in and installing air ride but want some of your input before I dive in head first:


What company did you go with and how was/is their customer support?

If you could change one thing about how you setup your air ride what would it be?

What was your approximate expenditure/ time spent installing?

Any words of wisdom to those that have never done this before?

Is it really worth it??

man, i'm right there with you on those same questions. i've got a short frame ready to go for it also. my question to you is; how low do you want to go? i think it makes a big difference in what needs to be done and what the cost is.

i want to drop pretty low but not lay frame.

I'm there also... I'm eyeballing a 66 LWB Fleet that I want to Static Drop as low as possible, looking at Porterbuilt... Aiming at something similar to what Durg is doing up in Maine... Sorry, but I can't speak to the Air-ride side

I'm not really into the "dragging-on-the-ground" look. I like the stock height but I think it would be really nice to have an adjustable stance. I think the most I would ever lower it would be 2-3 inches. The main reason I'm interested is because I have heard they ride like a dream. Does that answer your question??
