Close but not yet, working on getting the doors painted and put on then I can put the fenders on and then the hood.
Hopefully if mother nature cooperates... next weekend.

Looking good! The only way to learn is to do it. If you screw up, just sand it and redo it. You're just out some time and more materials. Good on you for trying, keep at it!

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Some updates... good thing I need a repaint cause I scratched the fenders bad trying get the bumper mounted up, had to fab up some brackets to mount it. At least the right side mirror mounting went a little smoother.

Also got my emblems for the fenders...

Looking good man. Those warn bumpers are kind of chincy for what they are huh? That yellow burb had one and I was surprised how thin of material it was made out of.

I also agree, it looks very good. I found silver to be one of the harder colours to spray back when I was in the body shop but it looks good in that picture with the front end all on! Did you end up with enough clearance with your hood to rad? I had trouble with mine.

Yes they are chincy, but the center winch is pretty beefy, I don't think I am going to put a winch on it anyways, going use it for storage.

LOL if you saw it up close .... it is blotchy and a bunch of runs, looks like crap but it was my first time painting this kind of color, it is gonna need a repaint, I was in a rush to get it somewhat painted before the temps drop and that crappy white stuff falls from the sky.
The skimpy rad I have in there now clear no problem but I am worried about it being able to keep the 6bt cool.
I wrecked a brand new 2nd rad, fan hit, it was alright idling but when I drove over some uneven ground bam the fan hit argh

Man that sucks. I know these trucks really twist up a lot. That is another reason to go electric. I would try the "skimpy" rad and see. It might be alright, all depends how you use it, or how much heat you make if you turn up the power etc.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Todays progress, got the dump bed on.
But I found out the Cummins fan is not gonna clear the hood so I took it off.
Might end up going back to a 2nd gen radiator to help with cooling and run a electric fan if needed. Right now I have a one row aluminum rad for a burb with a 454.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

There are 2 different diameters of dodge cummins fan blades. What dia is yours? If I remember correctly, one was 19" and is 21.5". Maybe you'll be lucky and yours is the bigger one so you can just find a shorter one and run it. That dump bed looks pretty nice on there.

Nice piece of info on the fan blade, mine is 21.5", tried a GM one which bolted on the fan clutch but the blades hit the balancer and other stuff on the front of the motor.
Pretty sure the fan blade I brought was for a 2nd gen so maybe the 1st gen fan blade is the smaller one.
I might just go with a electric fan and a 2nd gen radiator.

Dump bed needs a lot of work, lots of rust on it.
I think it sits too high, have to figure out if I can get it lowered down a bit.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Don't hold me to this, but I think the later 24v blade is smaller. I'd think an intercooled first gen would be since the fan hub is up higher. I'll try to dig up that answer for you soon.

Not much to update, too dang cold here.
Got some wiring done and some of the heater ducts under the dash in place.
Also picked up this 4 in exhaust off a 2011 for $80.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

From your thread about exhaust fitment, maybe that newer tail pipe is part of the fitment issue. I've usually used 90-93 or 94-02 style exhausts on these conversions.

Yep, 4" is what I usually use to keep modifications down.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Latest update, been awhile, got my exhaust pretty much done.
3" downpipe to 3.5" to 4"

Also picked up a WH1C for $51.00
Gonna try it come spring time.

Waiting on a replacement injection pump to show up, pretty sure mine is shot, smokes bad when you rev it up and rpms break up. Already swapped injectors so I know it isn't them.

But I did get my fuel lines all hooked up and no longer need a gallon jug sitting on the fender to run it lol

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Nice work on the exhaust! On the engine troubles, are you sure you have all the air out of the system and have you checked supply pressure to your injection pump? Those diaphram lift pumps are a terrible choice and are prone to failure. I'd be checking that. Pinch off your return line and see if it runs better. These VE's can be a bear to get all the air out of them sometimes.

I put a new lift pump on about a month ago, also have swapped injectors.
This weekend I swapped the IP and now it runs like it should.
It sounds so different, snappy and like a real diesel.
The old IP I could by hand, the new/used one pops when I turn it, you can tell it is building pressure.
Took me 3 tries to get the IP on right, kept shearing the woodruff key, so I pulled the whole front of the motor apart, bolted the IP down then put the gear on and key stayed where it was supposed to.
I'll tell ya when the timing is off it was making some horrendous injector knock because the timing was so far advanced.

Yeah, my ford with the VE, I have it advanced one tooth on the IP gear and they definitely sound like a 24v with too much timing.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build

Working on the front drive-shaft in between cold snaps.
Drive shaft I found that was about the right length is out of a 2008 Ford F-350.
Had to order a conversion u-joint for front yoke and do some grinding on the yoke that bolts to the transfer case.
Guess the official name for this truck is gonna be "The Mutt"
Took parts from GM, Dodge and Ford to get it all together lol
