Swept, vacuumed, and mopped.
Now on to getting the steering gearbox to ECE. Getting a quick steer ratio gearbox.

If time permits, maybe get the rearend dropped off to a shop to get the axles out. I already tried, and the pin is not moving at all. I pulled the retaining pin/bolt. Nothing. Go to start working on the rearend, getting the drums pulled and the saddles removed. Have new ones so I can re-allign for the drive line. Going disc brakes, nothing fancy now just some 11 or 12 inch discs.
Any thoughts, inputs, or disclaimers on cutting the factory pan hard bar mount on the pumpkin? Would like to do this for aesthetic reasons, but don't know if this will compromise the integrity of the housing.

Most of the time that pin bolt breaks off.. you sure you got all of it out?

Without knowing the length no not really. However after thoroughly inspecting the pin bolt, there is no sign of breaking or shearing. Thanks for the help.

Is the bolt (the part you got out.. )threaded on the end or is it smooth like the ones in the pictures on this site?

I just have a feeling the end of your bolt is still in there with about 2-3 threads on it. If the bolt is in fact out, most of the time the pin will move side to side .. easily enough you can push them out with your finger. Usually that bolt breaks off about 2-3 threads up from the bottom where the threads stop. It's an odd lookin bolt no doubt.

This kit is awesome. I have no connection with them at all, just saying this kit saved me from a lot of time and frustration. I'd go ahead and get a new bolt too.

So I thought I would update this as I have not posted stuff in a bit. Currently I am out of state for work, so that's why actual work hasn't been done. However, I have been making some purchases.

I ordered some upper tubular control arms from CPP in black.

Placing an order with ECE to get the Quick Steer Ratio Steering gearbox.


And also the garage needed some flare as well as I wanted a place to sit while writing up the next to do list. So I purchased one of these.

Update on the frame and parts that are being coated. Contacted the powder coater, he will be sending me some pictures when they get things coated. Pretty stoked about that.

Contacted KEG Media to get a rendering of how I would like my truck to look. Will post when I receive that.

Been looking into a TCI 700R4 transmission, looking at item number 371000 matched with a TCI Breakway torque converter. So that means I need to sell the transmission I pulled out. That transmission was a transmission built by Bowtie Overdrive. Despite the lack of customer service, the transmssion actually performed awesome. There was/is nothing wrong with the transmission, I am just erring on the side of caution with the torque numbers of the new engine.

Nice looking project. Sorry to hear about your dad. Mine wasn't in to working on cars, but he encouraged me in my hobby. Got to rebuild the family hauler when it broke down when I was 16. We got to fish a lot though. I like the garage. Still can't believe you call that messy though. LOL.

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. I guess my work is showing off. Things are really turning out great.

Today I got to pick up the rest of my parts from the powder coater... Now I will say, I didn't really realize how sparkly this silver was going to be. At first, I was a bit worried, but it's grown on me. And now after calling it a night and looking at all the pictures. It was a good choice, but I got to give credit to the powder coater owner, he recommended it.

So how about some pics.

Here is how the day started when I got home.


Really lucked out with the powder coater. For everything you see on the frame and a few more odds and ends. Was only $700. He took care of sandblasting and coating. Yup that included both colors, and the plastic wrapping was just the cherry on top. If anyone is Close to Colorado Springs, I recommend Platinum Powder Coating


Here is the contrast between the two colors. What do you guys think?



Quick Steer Ratio Gearbox from ECE. Came in black, I decided to paint it a close match to the silver coating I got. What you see now is just the primer.

Steering components painted. This is the closest aerosol spray I could find that would match the silver coating. The pitman arm I might have painted black to break up the silver a little bit. I have two, so all it will take is just to switch out one with the other.



Some of the front suspension and steering components laid out awaiting to be installed.

The rear, mounted everything loosely awaiting for my rearend to be done taken apart.


Quick rundown on the rearend, took it to a driveline shop and they found one of the spiders to have galled the axle bolt. Not to concerned about the internals or the rearend, as long as the housing is good. It's getting a complete rebuild. I just need it for mock up, for the driveline and brakes. It will be one of the last things to get done, as I will have new brake tabs welded to it and maybe new axle saddles welded to it, sent off to Platinum Powder Coating, for sandblasting and coating, and then off to rebuild shop.

Final picture. Quick steer ratio semi-mounted. Did it as a quick compare and contrast. I will do one more coat of the aerosol silver and follow up with a Clear Gloss finish. I think that will be my best bet to have it the closest matching.
