Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
This is the only spotlight equipped interior photo I have of what I believe to be a 1966. Sorry no close up detail photos. From what I have seen in real life, when using the correct exterior bracket the hole entering the cab for the spotlight shaft is centered in the joint between the dash and the side panel.
The only way to know if the Corvair bracket will work on a 64 truck is to do some eyeball engineering. Decades before the internet I installed spotlights on various cars and never knew factory specified brackets or templates existed. All my spotlights came from wrecking yards, so I just picked lamps or brackets that looked like they would work in my application. I came up with an assortment of brackets and lined them up on the windshield post where I thought they would fit and studied the alignment long and hard before I drilled. And until the installation on my 1960, I had never seen a custom inside bracket. Previously I always used the universal angled rubber bushing and ring clamp to complete the interior installation. Once you’ve determined the angles will work, the next most important factor is the length of the spotlight shaft. If you’re using factory brackets the length is already established and specified, but if you’re doing a custom install this becomes critical. If the length of the shaft is too long, the handle may interfere with the steering wheel. And conversely if the shaft is too short, the handle may collide with the side panel and limit full travel. Quite a few of the spotlights shown in the photos above don’t use the “correct” brackets, but they seem to fit and work. One benefit you have is the correct 187 bracket for a 64 Chevy truck is still available new from Unity. http://shop.unityusa.com/search.asp?keyword=187 The 60-63 guys aren’t so lucky as the brackets we need are long out of production.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
Hey guys, much appreciated. Markeb01 and 1963c-10, I'm actually on Unity's website right now looking them up. Any useful info I might need before purchasing the spotlight? T.J., how's things comin on the stepside lately? Last I heard, inclimate weather wasn't helping any towards work on the truck. I just got a stereo/speaker for the truck from classic car stereo and a CB to put in when I get back from deployment too, lol.

These are from my '60. I too am indebted to Mark for providing me with the knowhow and guidance bushings to mount mine as well.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
The mounting location shown above can obviously be achieved on a 64-66 truck, but I believe this was accomplished by using the “incorrect” outside bracket (which actually looks and fits nicely). Unfortunately I don’t know the number or application of that outside bracket. Here is the outside bracket on the truck in the photo above. Note that both mounting screws are visible against the rain gutter: It took me a while to find them, but these are actually the photos I was referring to. These are the “correct 187 left and right brackets: Note in this template photo the inboard mounting screw is below the body line: And in this photo with the spotlight removed, the inboard (external) mounting screw hole is again below the body line: When the correct 187 bracket is used, the inside hole for the shaft enters the cab like this: I just want to insure concise information is provided so everyone can make an informed decision on their mounting arrangement.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
While we're on the subject of correct brackets, there are two for each style of truck: The OE Factory bracket, and there was also an aftermarket bracket. The aftermarket brackets aren't generic--they were designed specifically for our trucks, for sale in parts stores, etc. The OE-style were available only through dealers. I don't know about the aftermarket ones, but the OE brackets have part numbers cast into the back of them.
And of course, there's a LEFT and RIGHT side (both with a different part number) -Brad

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
Here's a 1966 C80 upfitted by American LaFrance that has Unity spotlights. In this case they are mounted high on the A-pillar such that the handle goes through the hole for the sun visor.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
Yeah, I'll be bringin my truck down there, already told my chief that I need to get out in town and do all that fun shenanigans with mine. I'm also gonna do some work on it until I go on leave. And I couldn't agree more on what you have to go through to put a vehicle on the road these days, lol.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????
So I just picked up a spotlight off of EBay last night for $29.00 (my high bid) and the shipping was $18.54, and it comes with the 187L bracket with it. Not a bad steal for $47.54. Almost $100-$200 bucks cheaper than what they normally go for on the sites. Here's the pics.
