Re: 1955 GMC VS 1955 Chev

I like the 71 Gmc although I wouldn't mind a 1971 Chevy C-10..I like the '59 GMC 100 more than the Apache

I know some guys that have gotten grills re chromed from $500-1000.. Depends how damaged or rusty it is. I would be curious how the grill looks under that paint. It may be that they just shot paint over it with no real prep. If thats the case i would first try and remove the paint see how it looks then decide what do do from there.

Powder coating companies can now powder chrome look and it may not be show truck quality but looks dang good for the price $100-200 and is tough as nails.

Re: 1955 GMC VS 1955 Chev

Dude keep the GMC grille.
It is way rarer than the Chevy and you truly have something one of a kind. Those old Chevys are still a dime a dozen almost 70 years later. I don’t think I have ever even seen a GMC like this in person.

Re: 1955 GMC VS 1955 Chev

I've struggled with the same thing in my 58 GMC 150. Got a quote from Ogden Chrome for 1000.00 for repairs and show chrome. I'm leaning towards black powder coat. It's staying a GMC.

Re: 1955 GMC VS 1955 Chev

Funny thing about the chrome, I stumbled into it locally, of all things

the more time I have thought about it, I am leaning towards keeping it original GMC. focus on suspension and a c notch this year.

Rule of thumb on production is roughly 4 Chevys produced for every one GMC. If you don't want a GMC, it would sure be easier to sell it and buy a suitable Chevy. They did use different core supports but the same fenders so the Chevy grill should fit fine, and if you remove the bumper bullets the bumper is the same, just gotta weld up the holes.

Hi Bill, glad you like the pics! Welcome to this forum. I have talked with you at the Tri-5 truck site. Did you get your hood emblem mounted yet?
