Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
I love your passion! I looked at your pictures on photobucket and the short video! priceless! I've never really done a theme, more or less by the seat of my pants! It works a little!

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Actually Skip, I looked at that air cleaner, but my truck is no where near a hot rod, but couldn't figure out how it worked or if it had an actual paper element filter. I do have headers! Do the flaps in the front actually do something?

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
I think you should change what you have for a 14 inch by 4 inch thick chrome air cleaner. The one your running is plenty small for air flow.

I do like the Air cleaner in the ad, but have no idea how to find it.

Didn't think I'd ever find this air cleaner! Nice price and looks nice! This should suit me just fine unless someone else comes along and changes my mind! dne' http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12342080

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Denee007, you've hit on a topic that bugged me why I was figuring out my truck and it's parts.
Your concern is cooler air, mine was......I hate looking at the air filter element itself. There really isn't much choice out there though. This is my first attempt at making my own. Not what you looking for, but at least it breaks the norm. |

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Your last selection works for me, I have never had anything but the simple chrome ones, because most of my themes have been "stuck in the 60's" budget rods. Here is my 64 with the vintage Cal Custom valve covers and an Edlebrock Air Cleaner left over from another project. Yes fire wall and inner fenders are rough, but original never painted (except for PO over spray from a fender repaint), just a good washing now and then.

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
There are a couple here that are interesting but don't look off the and match your valve covers pretty well. http://www.classicindustries.com/cam...s/d141302.html
I think this is the one on the catalog cover http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12342080 Another view http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/perform...ATID=1078.html Got a friend in GM parts department that will give you a discount?

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Gee Jim! sigh, that is so Fine!! How do you make something like that? you wouldn't happen to have a side picture of it~ kind of hard to tell what the back part of it looks like. Quite unique! eh, like me! lol
This summer, I'd like to put a thermometer under the hood somehow and monitor the under the hood temp~ just curious.

Stepside Jim extraordinaire, you know you could probably make a ton of money with this kind of imagination and fabrication skill/s. Have you seen what http://www.marchperf.com/billet_air-cleaners.html sell for? eegods and a double eeek!

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
How the heck did you notice the compression on the inner fenders, I had to go look and could barely make them out!

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
I'm not sayin nothing til I find those compression numbers.....
You'd think after all the years of looking for hidden pictures in the Highlights magazine I'd find them numbers right away. |

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Hello Denee, Just finished reading your air cleaner ideas and search thread. I like the chrome 14 inch with the 4 inch filter that was mentioned. I have the same setup on my truck but the chrome was bad so I painted it. No ugly wing nut though. Just a Clarance J junior.

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
A K-N filter element is step one.
This 4" X 14" is very common. Even the small town NAPA store will likely stock it.

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
As soon as classic industries opens, I just have a question or two about the 2 air cleaners that I like, then wingnuts options, and perhaps the K&N filter like Highsider recommended.
dne' Jim, if you look on the driver's side inner fender, you can just make out the compression findings just above the alternator written in yellow. Brian has a keen eye! Hey Clarance, now that's an air cleaner with a theme!

Re: Ideas for an air cleaner?
Denee - Stepside has a K-N element in that exotic housing. Shows us all the variations, for sure!
