Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
I ask that question because I am going to move to Colorado, and hopefully eventually find a place that I can build a shop. Did yours come as a kit, plans built, you planned, or what? Seems like a good way to build, and the blown in insulation sure does seem like a great idea. I wonder how that would work on a pole barn setup. Looking for an inexpensive way to build without sacrificing safety and comfort.
Really liking this build, thanks for sharing. |

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
earl84 -
The building was my plan (about ten years of dreaming/thinking/drawing/planning). The plans were taken to Mueller metal buildings where they were redrawn using CAD software and engineering approved for wind and snow loads. We are doing some of the work ourselves to save money but I still am relying on my contractor to perform the majority of the work. I'm too old and fat to do this all on my own. I built my own home 20 years ago and I know my limitations...lol. The spray in foam insulation will work with any kind of structure and I'm hoping it will be a good investment because it is not cheap. I would do some research between the pole vs. steel construction because there is no way to know which would be less expensive especially in Colorado. As you are well aware, steel construction is very popular here in Texas and that was my first choice because this is how my home is constructed too. Hope this helps and good luck with your move to the high country.

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
You had mentioned in a earlier part of this thread, you had to wait a long time to do this,, someone once told me good things come to those who wait,, great job on the building, can't wait to see what you do with the finished product,

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Thanks glider_6969, Seeing the progress on the shop definitely makes the wait worth it.
Got a little more done yesterday. The weatherman is forecasting crazy springtime type weather so don't know how much will get done the rest of this week.

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Thanks! - Yes, have a BendPak HDS-14 on order. Trying to figure out which bay I want to put it in. I will be popping some lines of the footprint to help me decide once I can get the floor cleared as it's a staging area for a lot of the building trim parts right now.

That exhaust fan up high is a great idea. Had one like that waaaay back in my HS shop class and that thing worked amazingly well to get out all kinds of dust in the air.

We got Barnasaurus heated up with power yesterday so she's alive! I had my wife stand by the front man-door when I flipped the switch to the fan - It was funny seeing her hair being pulled into the shop. Should see some rock going up (wainscot) next week and the spray in insulation the following week.

Thanks! - Yes shade is a very valuable commodity - especially during a Texas summer.

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
More progress over the last couple of weeks. We’ve got the septic system in place, power hooked up, spray in insulation applied, and wainscot should be completed today. Still lots to do – hoping this thread isn’t boring the heck out of everyone.
Lateral lines installed, inspected, and covered: Meter base and feed through panel: Insulation & lights! : Wainscot in progress:

Not boring at all. Your place looks amazing. I really like that last picture with the hay rake in front. Love the stone you chose for the wainscoat.
Almost time to move in and get to working on projects!
