Spray a darker primer color over what you have and block sand the truck. Any low spots will show up as dark circles, lines etc where the block didn't sand it. Black requires a PERFECT canvas...

I know
But it's painted now ... I'll probably just save for a new box and have that painted black when I get it and switch them...and just live with the bad drivers side until then... ...but personally I'd rather have the ripples than they way it looked before! |

More pics
This is what happens when you have no box on the truck and have it in gear with your foot not fully on the brakes Some interior primed pictures (put the seat back in to move it around) The outside of the cab primered Now for the painted parts: That's just dust at the bottom...forgot to wipe it off before the pic I guess... The pictures arent' doing the paint justice, it's very shiney.
After wetsanding it will be very nice, but it'll need to be wetsanded to get the mild rippling out, and the bit of dust...damn dust!!! |

Yeah, they fit good. Only thing I've noticed so far is there is a screw hole missing for the vent window that I'll have to drill one for, but it shouldn't be an issue.

Are you sure they aren't for an earlier truck? I think the earlier (70s) versions of our trucks used one less screw on the vent windows. If they are the wrong doors, your door panels might not fit.

...I'll check the door panels later...but the doors are mounted and appears to be identical except for that one screw.

"Crappy Tire" paint...Duplicolor I think is what they sell?
I just lightly wet sanded the thing by hand for four hours yesterday, to remove those few damn runs and get it ready for the last coat...which hopefully goes on tonight. |

It's mixed with reducer, 4:1 (paint:reducer) and the paint was only ~$80 a gallon, and I'm going to end up using two, but that's because the hood, doors, tailgate, and box's outside panels will have three coats, while the cab only gets two, but the first one is pretty thick.
I'm not sure what the reducer cost though...I didn't buy it, my dad did. |

The only thing worse than finishing with extra parts is...
...missing a part Was putting the doors back together yesterday, and I can't find the passenger side window track...the one for the roll down window that is on the latch side of the door. Crap, would have had the truck together if it wasn't for that. Well, I do need to buy some bolts to hold the mirrors on, but I would have figured something out had I had that piece and been able to finish if I could have found bolts to use. B@H, off to the wreckers I go...or hopefully my dad sends one of the mechanics from the shop to the wreckers for me to get that track :p |

PS, don't use crappy tire duplicolor paint...or maybe it was the primer, but it DID NOT STICK properly, it's flaking off in spots, and I don't know why!
