Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Haven't gotten much done since last week, but July 4th I took the frame to the car wash and pressure washed it and then stripped it down to the rails. A few rivets I still have to cut but mostly clean. So this morning I cut the right side floor section out and trimed up the new section. Well had a little issue with the new section as the body mount hole and cone was 1 1/4 to the outside. So cut the section out and then my old floor was good around the hole area. Grafted that section in the right place then made a flanged edge on the firewall side to mount like factory, weld ghrough primed everything then welded the floor pan section in. Dressed all the welds. Maybe this week I'll weld the outer rocker in and the cab corner.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Thanks it is going to be a lot of work I know but I have a deadline I set for myself. There is a show at the end of March 2015 that I always attend without a vehicle. My son asked if we were going to try and take it and I don't want to disapoint him by being lazy or lack of trying. So the build is on, 8 months and counting.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
I've been slacking the last few weeks with waiting on parts and taking a vacation and just being plain hot. So this morning I got a lead on a newly rebuilt 1958 sbc 283 power pack engine. Never run and pretty complete so so went and picked it up along with a set of offy valve covers and intake, hei diet and plugs wires and pulleys.allong with this I picked up a 1987 700r4, needs a torque convertor and just a clean and some gaskets. Ordered an edelbrock carb and new flexplate and some other little goodies also.
Last week I recieved the eaton posi and 3.73 Richmond gears for the rear. Went out this past Tuesday and broke down the rear and pressed in the new studs on the 5 lug axles and just slid them in for mockup till after suspension setup. Looking like the new wheels won't be here for another 2-3 weeks.witing on polishing. So this upcoming week the plans are to finish puting the engine together and see about a convertor and pickup the radiator from the radiator shop from getting flushed and cleaned. |

Yes jcramsey this is the same truck that was on the Craigslist.
Thanks 63 c10 for the words of encouragement. Sometimes it's hard to be motivated if you don't have the feeling that your doing the right thing. Costs money for big mistakes. |

As for motivation.....I try and do something everyday....even if small. Even small projects add up to the timeline of the build.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Worked on the engine today, had to wait on more parts that I didn't have. Found out the offey intake I got had some stripped out holes and didn't have the time to deal with stripping the flakeing powder coat off so I order an edelbrock intake and some new bolts. Adjusted all the valves and installed the intake and new valve covers and water pump. Didn't get what I had planned, had a real good friend show up and kinda goofed off all morning. Also got the distributor set and carb just set on there to cover the hole.tommorrows another day.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Haven't done much lately, motivation level has been down. Work is slow so money is slow coming in.recieved my wheels this week and a few goodies I ordered for the engine,...fuel pump, fuel line, some bolts, air cleaner. Went this morning and had some 265/35r22 falken ziex put on the new centerline 22x9" smoothies. Switching everything to 5on5 from 6 lug.a lot of people say these wheels are played out, but to me I've loved these wheels since they came out and they just seem to fit the looks of a c10.
Talked to porterbuilt this week and he said should have everything in the next few weeks.cant wait. It's almost time for the break to be over and get down and dirty. |

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Thanks amueller, at 6 years old his attention span is a little short. There's nothing cool for home to touch and play with but just having him out there puting in some nuts and bolts or wearing a welding helmet watching me weld is a great feeling for any parent.trying to keep the young generation in the hobby and away from all the video games and tv. He'll be way more excited when things start getting shiny and back together.

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Did a little work today since it's raining out. Welded the drivers inner kick panel in and the lower post section. Got to looking and studying while I was welding all this in and notice the inner rocker on the aftermarket piece actually tapered from front to rear about 5/8". So when I put the rocker up there the bottom had nothing to weld to. I cut a section about 18-20" out and made a new piece with a wedge in it out of 16 guage sheetmetal that was the same thickness as the aftermarket piece.trimed it and welded it in.
It was time to stop when I ran out of weld through primer so grabbed the family and went to visit relatives and picked up some from oriellys. |

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Thanks guys. Recieved one of many boxes today from porterbuilt. It's a small box but any box is a good one. Also the shirts from hot rod avanue showed up today. Thanks to randy.... I surprised my son with a small but even at 6 it almost fits him. Great shirts if u guys get a chance buy some. There a great company.
Finished up the other floor yesterday on the drivers side. Had the same problem as the passenger side except the body hole was back 1" and to the outside 1". Hopefully this week I'll be selling the gasser and receiving another toy as a daily driver. Won't know till Friday but I'm psyched about it. |

Re: 66 c10 big window shortbed dropmember build up.
Nothing got done this week or weekend. I recieved the new sway bar stuff for the front end. Took the 1953 chevy gasser about 3 hours away for a new home. Said good bye. So picked up a hitch hiker on the way home.
A 1964 c10 shortbed fleetside... Wow this thing needs a lot of attention. The purpose is to use this as a daily driver and scoot around truck. It's had a bad past and I'm going to resurrect it and make it nice again atleast to drive and feel safe.at one point in its life it had the engine moved to mid engine....wtf why. So they cut out the back cab wall and thn put it back in with really bad welds. As well as the firewall. The front frame was cut off at the support for a tilt frontend...fenders we're cut diagonal to the cowl and hood and fenders were actuated..... So this up coming weekend I'm off to pick up a short bed frame roller and a spare parts cab to fix the 2 time over mess... So when the parts come in I can work back on the truck named "Larry" and then we'll work on"bob" when I get time.. My son has named them from veggie tales books. |
