I like the blue ones. Think I'll do the same when I tear my dash out.

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

Nitis, Thank you for posting your cluster with the different color LED's. It helps a lot of people make a decision they might have been questioning.

Is the inside of your tin still the correct factory jade green color? If not, what color did you paint it? It will effect the way the LED's look.

Thank you,
Tom

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

The blue looks good, but I'm a big fan of that color for lights. Did blue LEDs throughout my boat and it turned out great.

I also did the dome light but feels it really needs a clear lens.

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

I found you can't get the shift indicator fibre optic cable to light up with the LED lights but I do like the color of the LED's though, I used just white but with the stock tins it gives a greenish blue hue

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

Nitis, what are the part numbers you found for the blue and green leds, for the dash and dome light?

The gauges look good.

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

rx78nt1alex, You will need the 194 wedge base style bulbs for the instrument panel lights but the lights in the A/C Heater controls take a BA9 style buld. You will need 2 bulbs for the controls.

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

Hey guys I tried this sweet upgrade today. I bought the bulbs in the amazon link. I just wanted to test it out real quick so I plugged one in, but it wont light up. I tried a couple different sockets and I tried messing with the dimmer. Anyone know why it wont work? Do I need to change all of them to led for it to work?

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

Firs was it far enough for you to see?

Also of the 7 I switched I only got the polarity right once so if it don't light up remove the bulb and rotate it 180 and it should light up

Another way to try if it is daylight is you can try them in a turn signal slot or hibeam slot

Re: Led replacements for dash cluster

In a pinch you can test them with a 9V battery. It's enough to light them, at least what I have on hand.

The better ones must include a diode-rectifier-something such that they'll work in either polarity, or I've been extremely lucky.

I have the same problem all the time and it is a 50/50 shot that they go in right the first time. The current only flows through one way unlike a standard bulb.

Turn them around 180 and if that does not work, turn the socket around 180. I have never had a bad one yet but it is possible.
