Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I also put new bushings on the tranny end of the shift rods. Contrary to what it looks like in my shop manual, there are two bushings for each shift rod.

And here is a shot of where my column shifter sits when in neutral. To me it seemed like I could adjust this a bit based on preference but, after driving, it seems like it is in the right place.

You can also see that my steering wheel was mounted upside down by somebody. I'll have to change that back.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Good Tech, thanks for the pics! Where did you get the bushings for the shift rods? My jalopy could use a little tightening up in the shifter department.
thanks!

These are the links to bushings and clips: 1. the grommets for mating the shift rods to the column. This is only the rubber and you have to peel the tin inner washer from your existing grommets (don't throw them away.!). You need two. http://www.classicparts.com/1947-76-.../#.VBB1SGRdW2M 2. the trans arm grommets (I'd call them shifter bushings). You need four. http://www.classicparts.com/1960-76-.../#.VBB1RmRdW2M 3. and the clips (you need two) http://www.classicparts.com/1960-72-.../#.VBB1CGRdW2O

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I've got a few pictures on my iPhone so thought I should update this thread.
I patched up the hole in my floor late from where the 4-speed shifter was. I did it on a Sunday night and had to make do with what I could buy from Home Depot late at night, but it is patched up and will do for now The hole was pretty ugly. Looks like it was a V8 high hump and someone had to cut it open a bit for the 6 cyl shifter location and they also did a pretty rough job of patching the hole.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
My patch was only a little bit better. The tin I found at Home Depot was a bit thin so I did a double layer with some polyurethane goop in between. Then pop riveted it all together.
I used this stuff called "backer rod" as a gasket for the high hump because I plan to have the hump off again one day for a tremec tranny upgrade. And a little duct tape to finish it off and give it that professional look...

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Cleaned up the floor in preparation for some sound deadening and new rubber flooring.
My air vents are so full of pine needles even after vacuuming them out at least 3 or 4 times. Each time I take it for a drive I get a new wave of them. I think this truck was parked under the same tree its entire life.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
There are a few ugly spots on this cab.
It has actually be repaired before and I can see new rockers welded in and some of the cab mounts. But the rockers are rusted again and one of the original cab mounts needs done soon. There is also a crude repair job on the floor under the gas pedal. But I'm going to ignore all that for now. I'm planning a short bed conversion in 2015 and will possibly tackle rockers and cab mount then. But I want to keep the truck looking old and worn on the outside. Anyway it cleaned up well with lots of soap and hot water and here I have started placing the sound deadener. Those little white spots are more polyurethane I used to plug a bunch of extra holes that were in the floor. I think maybe it had a different set of seats in it at one time.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I got a new longer speedo cable because the new Saginaw three speed is longer than the Muncie 3-speed and the 4-speed that were previously in the truck.
I have the Muncie three speed that was original to the truck and grabbed that speedo gear so that the speedo would be somewhat accurate again. The one in the installed Saginaw did not want to come out easy and it occurred to me that it would be easy to break off inside and then I'd be seriously messed up. So be careful if you are changing these.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Love the little personal touches form the previous owner, such as the speaker glued on with construction adhesive.!
I'm not putting him down. That stuff is awesome and I'll probably use it myself here and there.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Here's a couple shots of the sound deadener stuff I bought from Brothers as a kit. It came with the tar-backed strips and then the full size jute pad with the silver backing. I also bought the behind the seat kit and the door kit (which I will get to later).
I had luckily bought an extra roll of the jute silver stuff which was good because the kit didn't fit my high hump. And I used the extra to fill in the back corners and to patch a few problem spots.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I used some black duct tape around the edges so the silver doesn't show behind my black rubber mats.
I possibly should have trimmed more off the edges of the silver jute stuff so I could have taped it to the floor easier. But, then again, the closer to the edge it is the quieter I hope. I ended up painting the area under the seat black for now because I didn't want the silver stuff showing. I'm looking for a rubber or vinyl black floor covering for that area because the silver jute isn't very tough. Hartrod had a pic of a vinyl covering in his '68 that looked pretty good. I'm just waiting for the black paint to dry so I can finish up the door sills and put the seat back in and have the truck drivable again.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I also pulled the stock gas tank out from behind the seat. It wasn't hooked up and the truck has a saddle tank in it. That'll give me some room for stuff and later for a subwoofer and some of those corner speaker brackets bigblock73 makes.
I wanted to keep the stock filler neck and couldn't figure out what to do because I wanted some neck showing (like stock) and didn't like the idea that some guys do where they basically bolt the gas cap on flush to the grommet. So I ended up cutting the filler neck off of the tank and just putting a nut and bolt through it so it won't come out. It could get pushed in if someone pushes hard enough but at least I'd know where to find it. It has a nice ridge on it preventing it from falling in by itself. Later on I filled the neck with some of that foam sealer stuff so that nobody fills my cab with gas. it's pretty easy to do. I've almost done it myself.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
By the way I filled the tank with water while I sawed the filler cap off. I don't know how likely it is that a spark could blow the thing up but I'm pretty sure it can't blow up when it is full of water. Sawzall took it off in 3 seconds.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
The Brother's rubber mat wasn't a perfect fit. It doesn't line up for the seat bolts and the little holes for the "mushroom" pegs that keep it from slipping don't line up.
But the dimmer hole lined up well and I like the rubber itself. I wish it extended under the seat. It says "69" on it and I wonder if it would fit a '69 better, but, from what I've heard, I doubt it. It does fit the high hump very well and lined up under the dash nicely. Just one tiny spot near my '67 gas pedal where I could see the silver jute underneath so I covered it with a bit of black tape. I'll post installed pics later once I get the sill plates in.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Good looking truck. Of course I love the white grille and bumpers I actually liked the camper shell as well.
Also I like the filler neck idea, may steal that when I install the one under the bed. I love the look.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
Just realized I haven't posted up any pictures lately.
Here is the only one I have of my new rubber carpets. I'll have to take some with the glove box back in. I also took the ugly stereo out and need to get a radio delete plate.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
I also ripped the old farmer truck rear bumper off and installed a sport bumper. I got some of the correct ivory paint made up in rattle cans and painted it. Again I have no good pictures for some reason and will have to take some.

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
And I put in the 5-lug conversion axles on the back. This was a really easy job and went real smooth. My phone was dead during the install so I didn't get any pics but I followed this video posted up by Tx_firefighter a while ago and it explained it pretty well.
My retaining bolt for the pin was a bit different and my spider gear bushings were a bit different but the idea is the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqdmUPWpI9c

Re: 1967 No Frills LWB Fleet
These rims are wheel vintiques 15x8 and I rattle canned them with the color-matched ivory paint.
I can't wait to get my front brake conversion and lowering done so the truck will sit how I want it.
