Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

Very nice! It's refreshing to see a truck that still looks like a truck, and not some wanna be honda civic with ugly wheels and sitting an inch off of the ground. I wouldn't change a thing on that truck

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

The pictures genuinely do not do this truck justice... the only way it could be any nicer (In my opinion) was if he detailed it and started pushing it in and out of an enclosed trailer to show it... and he's not gonna do that.

I couldn't own it... I'd be afraid of ruining it... He drives it... not a lot. But he has to split his time between this 72 and a 86 gmc swb 4x4, 2 65 chevelles, and a 67 Chevelle. All are beautiful vehicles.

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

.....thats definitely a 9.5 to 9.8'er in my books.
VERY Nice
....oh, and I don't know what a 10 out of 10 would even look like.....LOL.
The only thing I don't love is those valve covers...and some of the chrome on a couple of random accessories. This however, is very minor, personal opinion stuff tho'....the truck is a really beauty!!
....BUT....why didn't he slam it on the ground, put 22"+ rims on it and sand the paint off???? (LOL)

All Good!!

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

It's a driver, no need for trailers.

I am NOT bashing this truck. It's awesome. It's one of the nicest trucks I've seen on this board. But I am trying to do a reality check on how perfect it is, because it's not a Pebble Beach truck.

However, the notion that this is a 9+ truck isn't really fair to people that build 8+ trucks for real. I'm going to call out some examples just to distinguish one from the other.

It is still, I repeat, a very nice truck.

There are dozens of incorrect finishes and things chrome that shouldn't be, but I won't pick on that because it could just be a personal choice. The only "return to stock" nits I have are the entire engine compartment and the stainless geegaws over the side windows (unless they were a later option or GM accessory I've just never seen before).

But, if you wanted this truck to be a 9.5, you would have to do these at a minimum. And again, I'm going to omit colors and finishes, so I won't be calling it out for having body-color shocks. Or acorn nuts where regular nuts should be, that sort of thing. I lack the knowledge needed to judge it at that level.

Refinish center AC vent
Refinish radio bezel and band switch
NOS or repro heater controls
Cut out and replace rusted area on bottom of cab
Could just be the photo, but the console lid looks like it needs a refresh
Door panels have sun damage.
Dye coming off arm rests
Needs new visors
Dome lamp plastic yellowed
Needs new signal stalk
Needs new (or refinish) tilt stalk
Refinish shift indicator housing
Replace worn cruise switch
Repaint seat tracks (rust and grime)
Get proper seat track release rubber cover
Refinish dash bezel (such as "LIGHTS" is really worn)
Clean and polish speed warning cable nut and head
Not sure about the speed warning needle - I think it should be more yellow
Oil pressure gauge crooked within its housing
Replace 454 badges (paint coming off)
Return engine compartment to stock (not really possible with Gen V timing cover, but you can get very close)
Replace or refinish tarnished sway bar brackets
Refinish front suspension (see tie-rod sleeve, 40 years of baked on stuff)
Refinish rear wheel wells
Any documentation would be nice, since what it does have isn't real (SPID)

I still very much like the fact it looks partially stock. I know there's a real trend towards lowering and big wheels and so on and glad this particular truck didn't get taken that direction. None of us (well, few of us) ever saw a truck equipped to this level back in the day. There may not have been any. So it's nice to see it in partially factory form.

I agree that the truck is not perfect or entirely "correct"... I don't see any rust on the bottom of the cab... let alone a spot that needs cut out. Again I don't own the truck, I just took the pictures... But I went back and looked at the full sized versions and didn't see any rust. Maybe I'm missing something though.

And a lot of what you see on the chrome (such as the shift indicator and radio ac/vent) is dust. All he did before I took these photos was run his duster over the exterior. Chrome and black are both very hard to photograph... let alone side by side

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

I thought it might be a reflection but its in a couple of different photos. It's certainly not a big deal or anything.

I feel like a dork picking on such a nice truck, I'm only trying to call out how hard it is to get from "super nice truck" to "trailer queen".

It's a reflection

That was the closest thing I saw to what you might of been thinking was rust too btw.

I am not going to nit-pick his truck. He!! it is 10X better than mine.

It is a great looking truck that almost anyone on this forum would love to have, including me.

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

If I remember correctly, I saw this truck at Fall Carlisle 2000 when Jerry had owned it and brought it and an equally as nice red swb (Jason's???) that they had brought to to show/swap meet. Looks as good now as it did then.... Was the first time I ever saw, well became aware of, shoulder belts and the funky add on cruise master..... One of my favorites of all time that's for sure.....

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

Very nice truck. I think anyone on this forum would absolutely love to own that thing. It really is a beautiful truck!

Someone that has never actually seen (in person) a *10* vehicle would think this truck IS a 10. If you sit this truck beside a *10* truck, you would see the incorrectness of this truck in the thread. Yes, a 10 would be a museum/climate controlled, restored back to factory original in every way, shape or form and would be hauled in an enclosed trailer. And would NEVER driven. It would also include factory correct (for the year) hose clamps in the correct location and clocked in the right place on the hose. The battery, paint finishes, factory paint over-sprayed areas...all, would be perfect. It's very hard to have a *10* vehicle.

This is why I don't do car shows. I have a "nice" '71 Cheyenne - not a show vehicle. I have a "nice" '67 Camaro - not a show vehicle. They both have dust, paint chips, etc. because I DRIVE them. Not going to apologize to anyone for doing that. Having vented - that's as nice a truck as I have seen in a long time. The owner should be proud and he should DRIVE it!

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

Is it just me, or do dudes on forums get a little PMS'y around winter time lol. Every forum I've ever been on, there is an increase in bickering around winter time. Motorcycle forums are the worst because everyone gets cooped up and can't ride, but I don't know if it's the loss of daylight, or holiday stress, but people are always a little less tolerant of comments this time of year.

Seems like its a good time to go out and work on the truck and practice some 12oz. curls.

Re: Pictures don't do it justice...

Standard Disclaimer for this thread: it's still a gorgeous truck.

My question, though, is about the "Air Conditioned" sticker in the back cab window. I like that, and think it would look good on mine, but wondering when they were "correct" for an AC truck (what years or scenario)?

I've already demonstrated I'm not that picky by having a Disc Brake sticker, but that's because my '70 truck and it's '72 disc brakes average out to '71, which the sticker is correct for ;-)
