Re: A 1967 C10 Story and Build.... "Radio Jones"

March 2011 - April 2012:

Doug and my mom enjoyed the 67 a lot also during this year. But my mom had one complaint… with the windows rolled down on hot days it messed her hair up..LMAO.

Doug was joking with me about it one day and I said “ Well you know I can install a Vintage Air setup and she cant fuss about that anymore.” He thought about it for about 2 minutes..then told me to order whatever I need and install it for him. So here we go with the next round of upgrades..LOL

I ordered the Vintage Air kit, Brothers Trucks electric fan kit, Street and Performance polished Ram Jet air cleaner, upgraded to a more powerful chrome alternator, and I also upgraded the alternator wiring to larger gauge wire to handle the extra load from the AC and the electric fans.

You will be real COOL now, I assume you put in the new generation Vintage Air with the digital controls so you can ditch the cables. I thought it was of the easiest install of any kit I have ever had for my truck and the instructions were top notch. You know they are good when after the install you have no remaining bolts or screws left, at least I didn't.Your install looks great with the Ram Jet engine.

Re: A 1967 C10 Story and Build.... "Radio Jones"

April 2012 – April 2014

During these two years, Doug and I enjoyed the truck a lot. We hit quite a few car shows and cruise-ins and had a blast. And also we were planning the next few rounds of upgrades during this time while letting his wallet recover a little in the process. LOL

We had bought up a few parts and in April of 2014 I got to work installing some of it.

Boyd Welding Fuel tank install :
I installed this tank and decided to do something different for the fuel filler.
Doug runs a plastic bed liner because he wanted to keep the original beat up bed underneath

So I used the bedliner to hide the pipe coming up for the fuel filler, it turned out to be neat and clean looking I think. i used a filler neck and cap for a 68 Camaro

Re: A 1967 C10 Story and Build.... "Radio Jones"

April 2014- August 2014

For the next upgrade we decided to finally get rid of the old factory 3 speed manual transmission. I ordered up all these parts:

Bowtie Overdrives 700R4 Transmission
CPP trans crossmember
Lokar transmission dipstick
New Automatic steering column painted to match interior
New steering wheel adapter
New intermediate steering shaft
Lokar transmission linkage kit
New speedometer cable
LMC Stainless Coolant overflow tank
Had the factory driveshaft shortened and balanced , all new U joints

Also experienced some weird idling with the new automatic. Found out it’s a common problem with Ram Jet computers. So I sent the engine computer to OBD Diagnostics for a reflash with one of their programs and it fixed all the problems and helped the Ram Jet to run better than it ever has before.

Please Ignore that it isnt in park in this pic..LOL

When you get a chance post a picture of how and where you mounted the coolant recovery tank- as I have been trying to figure how to mount next to the battery box.

Re: A 1967 C10 Story and Build.... "Radio Jones"

Well.. been really busy lately and haven't posted much.
but.... I have sad news. "Radio Jones" passed away September 16th at 96 years old. But this truck will continue to be a tribute to him and will always stay in the family. There is only one car show left for this season and its this sunday, then after that show is over we are getting ready to do some more work on it .

Great story!

Sorry to hear about Radio! At 96, he lived a heck of a lot longer than most of us could ever hope to!

Re: A 1967 C10 Story and Build.... "Radio Jones"

December 2014 - February 2015

Well I finally found some time to post some more updates.

During this phase of the build it was time to make this old truck handle and stop better, along with giving it a meaner attitude with the stance.

- Converted from 4 wheel non-power drum brakes to a full 4 wheel power disc brake setup. New stainless steel brake lines, all new rubber brake lines, and a chrome brake master cylinder

- removed the 15" wheel and tire combination and put on some Riddler 17" front and 18" rear wheels and new tires.

- Added anti-sway bars front and rear

- front lowering spindles and along with new lowering springs all around

- Completely rebuild the entire rear end. New differential , new gears, all new bearings and seals. new axles, 5 lug conversion all around

Here is a couple of pics of all the parts.
