Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

Nice short fleet beds seem to be harder to find than frames and it looks like you found two of them! Just keep looking for a frame, you'll find one. Bring a tape with you to make sure it's square. Find similar points (holes/rivets, etc) and cross measure, etc.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

Man it took me a while to find the beds but I got lucky. I found a rolling frame for $500 and I found another guy selling frame only, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet on price.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

So was a late model rear part of the frame spliced on to the existing '72 frame?

Need pics of where the frame is spliced/cut and welded.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

When looking for a donor frame, pay special attention to the rear area around the coil springs. Right above where the coil springs mount to the frame. I didn't pay close enough attention when I went out and bought my donor truck and I had to spend major time and effort cutting the bad spots of the frame out and fitting/welding new pieces in.

Find another frame and put your stuff on it. They come up on craigslist occasionally.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

I was told that the late beds.needed to be raised to line up right, don't no if that's true but we need pics of the frame. Also I would get the proper paper work with another frame a title, some form of ownership to be right with dmv

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

I would pull the bed or cab off and take it to a competent welding shop. They can cut out the bad and weld in a section of good frame from another donor and plate over everything. This is exactly how Open Road added 18" to my 68 frame to extend the wheelbase from 157" to 175". When I pulled the body off it looked as perfect as the day they welded it up after 62,000 miles. They were a factory dealer for GM so it had to be approved. What I am getting at is for probably around that $500 number someone mentioned earlier you can more than likely get your truck straightened out. Whole lot less work and effort than the other options. Just don't expect them to do it under the cab/bed with them in place.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

Trixxterr according to the Highway Patrolman that use to run the Vehicle theft division in Austin the Title has to Match the Frame. I was going to use my cab off my LWB on a short frame and he told me i had to have the title to the frame i used.

Dude,
Post some pics. From both sides of the frame as best you can. Take the bed off if need.

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

So you bought it as an advertised short bed?...Did you pay short bed money for it only to find out it was a hack job?

Re: What do I do with my hacked 72 cheyenne?

I would find a good frame and be done with it. I found my 71 Blazer frame on CL for $175 and the guy delivered it to as a roller with a HD 73 front end with disc brakes and a 12 bolt rear posi. The rear was NOT a posi but I did not care. Sold the rear and some pieces from my old bent frame and it ended up paying for the new frame...Even had good steelies on it so I just bought some 73 hubcaps. Doesn't look too bad.
