Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
Do you have any idea how "rare" your truck is?
1,706 shortbed stepside 4x4s were build in 1968 (1,449 shortbed fleetside 4x4s were built). There were 46,322 shortbed stepside 2wd trucks built for comparison.

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
Oh wow...i had no idea. That's awesome. I plan to keep it completely original. I'm pulling the motor to rebuild it as we speak. I'll post some pics. Thanks for the info btw, that makes it even more fun and interesting

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
No problem. I try to let everyone know that buys one, or finds one, to try to preserve them. There's so few it really is sad to see one parted, scrapped, or turned into a 2wd. If you want to LS it, add A/C, whatever, have fun with it, just save the parts and keep her a 4x4.
In terms of 4x4's in general, not many people bought them. This generation of trucks had a low % of 4x4 trucks, whereas today it seems everybody has a Z71 Silverado/Tahoe/burb whether they need it or not. Enjoy it! Cool find. Here's a link to the production numbers for Chevrolet, GMC's #'s were lost in a fire many years ago, but it's standard to assume approximately 1/4 to approximate for GMC's. Meaning only a handful of 4x4 GMC shortbed trucks exist. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=104816 About 20 years ago my dad had a 69 or 70 GMC longbed 4x4 that was a plow truck. It was a NY truck and was so bad the bed fell off, and the cab had actually split apart, and that was 20+ years ago. That truck was scrapped, but I don't think it could have been saved without a full "re-body."

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
im glad you posted this info, I knew the truck was a rare one but I didn't know the actual details. It'd be nice like to know how many came with the winch option. I plan to keep it original, and will definitely do my best to do so now. I Just pulled the motor last night to do a rebuild, compression was pretty low across the board and it had a couple dead cylinders. Overall things look pretty good inside tho, just really dirty, and lots of carbon build up. I'm really excited for this one. I just need to find a spare tire carrier now.

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
That's the kind of stuff we will never know (apparently GM didn't keep the records that broke the trucks down by options, color, trim, etc.), that info just isn't available like it is for Pontiacs (PHS), or the Mustangs (Marti Reports).

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
it's come a lil ways in the past couple months, overall my little brother and I have had a blast with this lil truck. We started driving it finally this last week and it's been a good time. Theres still a lot of work to do on it but it's a great driver now and an attention getter thats for sure.

That's a neat truck with a great story. What size tires and wheels did you go with?

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
I am digging those tires and also want to know. That is the look I want on the new K20. Picked up a set of 16" steelies and hubcaps. Please tell!

Re: My first barn find (it was half way in so round up)
The tires are a super swamper 33x10.50 I had sittin in the shop. The where are original prob a 15x6? They are a 15 but width I'm not 100% but the tires fit the look I wanted. They're narrow tall and meaty and they drive good

I'll get some better pics but they fit great and are super narrow which I think completes the look
