Re: 1970 GMC Shortbox Stepside STOLEN

In California the Authorities (not sure if this is Police or Federal or Sherriff or all three) have traffic cameras strategically placed to record traffic in and out of certain areas. I believe they will review these but it is a lot of man hours so likely they will only want to do it for Amber alerts or bank robberies or Homeland Security cases.

You are close to a Port there; and the fact that the Shop owner waited three days to tell you what happened is very suspicious. I'm speculating but it could have been he was waiting until he thought the goods were clear...

I have no idea how to do this but could there be a way to look at local shipping container or vehicle transport ship traffic and see if you recognize a name? Or maybe the Port records outbound VIN's?

Or possibly US/Mexico border traffic camera data? One thing you have in your favor is that you know the time window within reason.

Also see if you can get the Police to check the shop owner's DMV registration to see what trailers he owns - or if you are lucky shipping containers or semi truck trailers..

Sorry I realize that is slim but maybe someone here can turn those bad ideas into a good one?

No, to this day I have not heard from police and I was dropped like a hot rock by anyone who knew the body shop owner, including him.

My truck was parted out and sent in all different directions.

None, it is gone and parted out. I will not hear back from anyone and I have moved on to my 72 Blazer as to put my focus in. Sorry for the long delay on information. It has been hard to even think about it and really I didn't want to act stupid with a family that could be a target for my retaliation.

I needed to stay away from the these people and I hoped the police would do it's job, especially with the leads I had. They didn't since it wasn't revenue or a violent crime.

I give you credit for handling it your way . That being said my way although more personally satisfying would have possibly come with repercussions , I still would sue them and it doesn't matter if he's still in business or not .

good call on the retaliation thing, since you have a family,, although I would have let my temper get the best of me and probably would have ended up in jail, I would have gotten some answers though....sucks that there are so many crooks and thieves in this world...and you are right about the cops, they don't care!!! My friend just got his house broken in to, thieves got a bunch of his guns, cops have arrested some people, but have not gotten any guns or anything else back..let me and my buddy have the thieves? we could make them talk!!! cops can't do anything!

If you filed an insurance claim with your ins company, and they paid out to you, normally they will retrieve retrobution through the courts against the body shop owner...

I know that doesnt equal the truck being returned, but it instills that the shop owner is still held accountable.

I'm sorry to hear this and to see it happen to anyone or their belongings. Hopefully at some point everything will work out for you. It is a real shame.
