Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

I wasn't thinking, but since you're in Canada I believe you can get the GM heritage packets on either truck. And I do agree the Jimmy is and will be more collectible in the long run

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

im not so much concerned about resale value its more so which one is more rare and harder to find because later i can find the other one easier and get one.....just was looking for the odd ball and rare one i personally have never seen a big block original suburban, truck or blazer im not sure they even made a big block blazer or jimmy from factory

It will be easier to find another suburban IMO

I see them pop up fairly often down here.

big block in a blazer/jimmy you couldn't get a big block factory in any 67-72 4x4 but I imagine you could from the factory in a 2wd blazer but it would be extremely rare and worth big $$ for sure

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

I see that is a good point I didn't think big block engines were ever available in blazers or jimmies at all......the suburban is the only one I have seen since I got interested in these trucks when I was 19, I'm 38 now

Big blocks weren't offered in blazers or Jimmy's. I don't know why

I think your mind is made up on the Jimmy lol. I say go for it if it looks good in person. You can find another suburban, but a 2wd Jimmy will be difficult

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

I only WISH my mind is made up ha ha ha ha

i mean i want both, the jimmy is a sweet ride and looks like as is with all that it has is rare and will only go up in value all due to demand almost every one interested in classic trucks likes them and they look great all restored and are a great drive....had a friend that had a 4x4 one.....how ever that suburban is so nice clean and just the fact that it has all those factory options its like its teasing me. hummmmmm nothing like the sound of a chevy big block really right?....

i need to see the jimmy for all i know its just not worth it......looking into it found posts here that said maybe only 120 72 4x2 made it into canada so i may try to finance and get both ha ha ha

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

I agree the suburban would be hard to find another with those options, however, options could be added to a less optioned one. The Jimmy however can't just be made. I agree to look at the Jimmy and take many detailed pics and go over it with a fine tooth comb. It's 13k USD and for that much I'd want it very solid. It seems like once rust spreads in a blazer/Jimmy it spreads quickly and consumes a lot. The suburban just seems a little high priced. If you could get him down a few thousand I think it'd be a great deal

also I just emailed the Chev Heritage Center and got a reply back fairly fast on the question if blazers or jimmys ever had factory big blocks that option was never offered in a blazer or jimmy

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

right i will post pictures of the jimmy for sure is there any particular location on the jimmy that i should get pictures from or that you would want to see?

I know i can always add the options but that wouldn't be the same value or rarity as if the truck had them originally and was all numbers matching like the suburban right? i mean original tach, big block, bucket sits and tilt will always trump added later options right?

also someone i know here in Canada (not on this site) told me because trucks like these were for the most part used hard and abused the fact that the engine isn't numbers matching wouldn't detract from the price the same as say a 69 mustang or some other classic collector car right? or is that a line of bs?

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

You should be able to get in touch with GM of Canada and they should have documentation on the Jimmy since it was originally a Canadian vehicle. The suburban on the other hand being a u.s. vehicle ur s.o.l

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

Personally the engine not being original in the Jimmy wouldn't bother me. I don't think it'd really hurt the value because trucks didn't have vin numbers stamped on the engines like cars did. So technically you could find a date correct motor and basically there would be no way to argue it isn't the original. The suburbans value lies in the options. I think it's awesome it was ordered with them all, but if it was a plain Jane suburban that someone correctly added the parts too, I wouldn't see a huge difference in the value, imho

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

the jimmy also comes with some family history its been in the same family for 20 years and was stored in a barn for a long time....seems like the jimmy is looking better.....now I am not sure if its the original engine but what the owner said was it has too much pep for it to have never been rebuilt or not swapped out for a more modern one but looks like a correct 350

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

Could have had some internal work done to it. On the passenger side of the engine in front of the head there is a small flat pad. It will have a 2 or 3 letter suffix (should have a few numbers too). If you get the suffix, you can look up what the engine is originally out of. Or post it here and one of us will look it up. If the motor ever had the deck blocked that code will probably be gone

I'd check the floors, rocker boxes, windshield frame, a and b pillars. Basically check the body very good.

Re: 72 GMC Jimmy 4x2 or 71 Suburban 4x2 big block

Ya if the numbers gone, best you could do is get the block casting number. It's on the back of the block in front of the bellhousing. It'll be able to give you an idea of the original engine application
